  • L-arginine WHEN to take it???

    Guys: Few debate the benefits of L-Arginine on the penis. And I thought I had it figured out that taking 2-3 grams per day would be helpful. Now here's the question---Should Arginine be taken WITH a meal or on an empty stomach? I have read dozens of thoughts on this and am not sure what the best answer is. I have read that it is best to take it on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal and then before bed on an empty stomach. The bottle says to take it with a meal. Has anyone determined whether there is a benefit to taking Arginine and/or Lysine AFTER a PE workout??? It's tricky to know what to do when there's conflicting information.

    You're gonna have to try different combinations of things.

    I took my arginine randomly throughout the day.
    Starting stats: October 15th, 2008 - NBPEL: 6.25' EG: 5.00'

    Current stats October 15th, 2009 - (100% erection) NBPEL: 7.20' EG: 5.375'

      For growth hormone release, on an empty stomach before bed. Thats what I read.

        I read to take Arginine on empty stomach before bed. But I also read that in order to get the growth hormone release, you have to take 6+ grams. With 500mg tablets, can taking 12 of these before bed REALLY be good for you?

            Phibbyshammer: Thanks for the information. I have read this before. However, I have also seen where you are to take the Arginine supplements WITH a meal. Beyond the general health benefits, we are wanting the growth hormone benefit. Trying to lock down exactly how much (which according to this is 6g) to take and with or without food is the difficult part. Thanks and I'll keep looking.

                Now the next question would be which brand and version of LArginine is best. Just started taking it. Did take it in the late 70's and early 80's when I was lifting on a regular basis, and it worked. But there was no set format as to when and where. This was on the recommendation made in Durk Pearson's book. Economically it looks like the powder would be the way to go, but the site's product if extremely expensive in relative terms.

                My own plan is to follow the rejuvenation protocol, by slowly working myself up. Started with one gram of Twin Labs L-Arginine and L-Ornithine last evening. Woke me right up was staring at the ceiling with my eyes wide open at 1AM. Hopefully this is just temporary.

                  Go for more expensive good quality brands at natural supplement stores. I dont trust supermarkets, neither should you. Supermarket = super scam

                    I Take it multiple times daily but not a whole 6 grams. (1000 mg doses)

                        i don't know where you guys buy this stuff and what it costs where you get it but these guys have a 3 for 1 sale on now this is where i buy almost all of my supplements now Discount Vitamins & Herbal Supplements from Puritan's Pride the delivery is usually within about a week they sell pretty much anything you will need even with the shipping and exchange rate (im in Canada) this is cheaper than the stores for me. just my 2 cents.

                          Need An Organic Chemist

                          Back in the 70's it was determined that you needed more calcium in your diet. Supplements came on to the market, at first mainly dolomite calcium tablets. These tablets were nothing more than ground up dolomite limestone. Close to Portland Cement. There were two problems with this supplement, one was lead which had leeched through the limestone from rain, and humans digestive track didn't recognize this form of calcium. Basically dolomite is calcium carbonate with a touch of magnesium, superficially just what the doctor ordered. Today you can get supplements with chelated forms of calcium, that is organic calcium that you body will absorb. You by the way need the magnesium to activate the calcium. Same thing with Zinc, you need zinc, but you need an organic form, so to get the benefits of zinc, i.e. more lead in your pencil, you need zinc picolinate. Not the gluconate version.

                          Now I went to the Puritan Website and it is a remarkably good price for the L-Arginine, it is the hyrochloride version. It this bio-available or will it just give you expensive urine.

                          I'm a marketing/personnel major, lots of math background, but no chemistry. Maybe one of you has the kind of knowledge I am looking for here.

                            PhibbysHammer (and others): Thanks for the replies--PhibbysHammer-- GREAT article with lots of helpful detail. Since you should take Arginine shortly before and immediately after "workouts," wouldn't it stand to reason that taking Arginine would yield the best benefits for the penis if taken shortly before and immediately after PE workouts? I truly believe that Arginine, combined with other supplements, can impact penis growth.

                            What do you think about taking Arginine before and after PE workouts???

                              Been doing it for a couple of months myself. When I first learned that 6 grams was a normal dose I felt 100 mg before and 1000 after plus another 2000 before bed would suit me fine.
