  • Darknes of my Past

I predominantly write fiction: short stories, novels (in progress). But after seeing KP's poetry I figured I post some of mine. I actually hate writing poetry, I feel it's very emotional. And can only write it when I have a spike of emotion.

Here are all the poems I've ever finished minus one:

I call this a mirror poem. You see what you see, not what anyone else does. Only one thing is guaranteed, you live and you die; we all take separate roads.

    Lemme know you're interpretation.

    Virgin of Fate (2/11/08)

    Audacious youth without fear,
    Hidden from Fate’s embrace,
    Lost in bliss of life.

    The first time,
    Pain crawls up the back,
    Struggled breaths.

    Emergency room.
    Still alive.

    Tenacious fool in a dream,
    Visible to Fate’s eye,
    Mortal ignorance.

    Second act,
    Rebellious thorax,
    Aching gasps.

    A return visit.
    Holding on.

    Final realization,
    Now within Fate’s clutches,
    Running for more time.

    Cursed thirds,
    Tormenting body,
    Cannot breathe.

    Destiny at hand.
    Fate quells all.

    Death.
    --------------------
When my lungs first collapsed I thought a lot about death. I actually thought I was gonna die. When I was released I went over to the computer and stayed there for thirteen hours straight, aside from bathroom breaks. And "Virgin of Fate" is what I created. My first real poem. Before this, the only poems I composed were in grade school.

This next piece was written in six hours. I have not changed anything. It was after a friend from high school was brutally killed, dragged behind a truck with a noose around his neck for three miles. It coulda been a song.

    I Want You To Remember

Well my friend it’s been a pleasure
Didn’t think this would happen now
But the times come for me to say
    So long my friend
    It’s been fun
    It’s been real
    Hope these days you’ll treasure

    When the day comes
    To attend my funeral
    Don’t be sad
    Don’t hold back
    Don’t wear black
    Ignore the routine
    And instead at my rite
    Sport the color white

    Don’t want you to weep
I want you to remember me
    And times shared so deep
What we’ve done will always be
    These memories forever keep

    As life moves along
    Don’t begin to mourn
    Jus’ cuz I’m gone
    Never feel forlorn
    That’s not what I’d do
    If it were me there
    Instead of you

    Don’t want you to weep
I want you to remember me
    And times shared so deep
What we’ve done will always be
    These memories forever keep

    Don’t you ever forget
    Nothin’ left I regret
    Otherwise it’s a fallacy
    We were a legacy
Even though I’m at my end
    Honor me my friend

    Don’t want you to weep
I want you to remember me
    And times shared so deep
What we’ve done will always be
    These memories forever keep
    Hope you now will see
    Nothin’ changes though I sleep

So raise up your glass and cheer
    “This is for you homeboy!”
    And drink to those dear

    Lost Cause

There was a boy about to die,
The doctors were out of things to try.
    Nothing left to say,
    He’d be gone this day.
And no one had a clue why.

And then I also came up with a Fibonacci poem. Syllables go: 1,1,2,3,5,8...

    Clearly Transparent

    I

    am

    clearly

    transparent,

    pretending to be

someone other than what they view,

hidden from sight, behind the cover of tinted glass.

They see through the window with a telescope, focusing on my lies, seeing the truth.

Nevertheless I fabricate the counterfeit as genuine and sell it to my reality shading the lens of my perception.

The last one proved difficult for many to interpret. Methaphors aren't a community college's strong suit.
