  • Can Steroid injections cause ED?

I had steroid injections into my wrist several weeks ago and maybe a few days to a week later I noticed my libido and testosterone levels seemed very low and I was unable to get an erection. After a few weeks I feel my libido has gone back up and I am now able to get an erection again but it is noticeably less firm than it was before. I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with steroids for joint pain and noticed the same effects. If so what was the timeline like before you felt back to normal 100%?

You should talk to your doc.

For inflammation, not anabolic. I'm assuming it was a corticosteroid

          Perfect.
This is what i was expecting to hear.
Yes corticosteroids are indeed droping testo levels but after some months it goes back to normal.

Alot of steroids affect libido (drop T levels), so you can't get erection, don't need/want sex, etc. So with every steroid you need to take testosterone to keep T levels up.
            Current: 5 x 4.5 (BPEL x EG), 2.5 flaccid
Goal (hope so in 3 years): 7.25 x 5.71 erected and 4.5 flaccid

Cortisol has a catabolic effect and can inhibit testosterone.

Does anyone think taking supplements like magnesium or ashwaghanda to lower cortisol will help any? I'm also going to try cleaning up my diet some and see if that helps. Really hoping I am back to normal soon but I've read some other posts in different forums with men claiming it took them a year or more, and even worse some claim they never get back to normal. Really hope that isn't the case with me, but unfortunately the medical community isn't too aware of these effects that men are getting from the shots and isn't doing many studies on it.

It's best to test out different brands as well as dosages to see how any of the above supplements work for you. Ashwagandha as well as fish oil is supposed to be good for controlling cortisol levels.

So my t levels and erection quality seems to have recovered and I'm feeling normal again about a month after I received my shots. Many others have reported ED symptoms for much longer, but thankfully this wasn't the case with me. I am more physically active and eat better than the average person though, so I wonder if this had anything to do with my levels recovering so quickly, but it's also likely that these shots affect people differently. On top of my clean diet I had started supplementing with zinc and magnesium which are both known to boost testosterone. I can't really say if this helped or not, or if it was just the time that helped, but I'm sure it didn't hurt. I'll probably stop taking the zinc now since it can be bad long term for your health, and hopefully my T levels don't drop. Just for reference, I found out the specific shot I was given was triamcinolone, a corticosteroid.

Yeah, I think steroids can cause different issues. You should take them very carefully... I had something like that once, no idea what it is.. I decided to eat my own boogers, and it worked pretty well for me. I take it from time to time, and I have no issues at all...

over half of them have reported this !

Steroids such as prednisone used for many chronic inflammatory disorders result in low serum testosterone which reduces sexual desire and causes erectile dysfunction

Rhodiola has also been shown to lower cortisol
