  • Ginkgo Biloba 2000 mg tablets?

    Hi folks,
went to the supermarket and bought Ginkgo Biloba tablets today, but it came in 2000 mg tablets.. On the sticker it says that each tablet contains 2000 mg of extract equiv. dry leaf, and it recommends me taking 3 tablets per day.

This sounds like a lot? Since the dosage (from what I've read here) is supposed to be around 120-240 mg per day?

Way too much. Bring them back and see if you can get your money back. I don't know why they would make them in that strength!

I haven't opened the bottle, so that should be fine. For the record this is the brand:

I think it should be fine, but just take ONE a day!

You can take it with a meal, but I prefer taking it on an empty stomach in the morning with some green tea. Regardless of the dosage.

I know it's late, but I was redirected here due to research.

Now, would it be safe to take ginseng on an empty stomach? How about with ginkgo and green tea in the morning (no meal?)

Well I actually have some that are 6000mg. Look, here is where I got them ...

GINKGO BILOBA 6000mg 60 "High Strength" Tablets FREE P&P | eBay

... but then on the label it says "equivalent of 6000mg of herb providing 28.8mg of Gingko" so this is a different matter altogether. I suspect that yours will say something similar, AKG, so I wouldn't worry about this too much. Also, your 2000mg 3x-daily pills amount to the same as my 6000mg one-a-day formula so I imagine this must be the standard dosage and it's in fact well short of the 120-140mgs that is recommended in the "Five G's" section.

Apologies if I've somehow misinterpreted the data. I find it all a bit confusing TBH and especially the stuff about 50:1 ratios and suchlike but I doubt very much you'd be getting anything like 2000mg of pure Gingko in your pills.
