I am looking for a dr to diagnose and treat my erectile dysfunction. There is a male medical clinic nearby run by a doctor who graduated from medical school with a degree in Obstetrics & Gynecology. This dr seems to do a very thorough examination and provides proper treatment. He has a great rating on the various dr review sites. Would you trust an Obgyn to diagnose and treat your erectile dysfunction?

Only if I was a girl! I would prefer a urologist but everyone thinks they're ugly. Hey just think if you sat around looking at dicks all day you might get ugly too. By the way we have had many members help their ed just from reading and doing some work here. Why not give it a try, and most of us aren't even ugly! The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

An Obgyn was only trained to deal with the female reproductive system, unless he/she somehow is a urologist too but I doubt that, see a urologist.

What would compel a gynecologist to operate a male health clinic? How do I find a urologist who specializes in erectile dysfunction? The only reason I've considered going to this male clinic is they specialize in erectile dysfunction and other male sexual issues. They also run a battery of tests that other urologists seem to not bother with and just dish out viagra without doing much of an examination.

Well according to what I have read on the ed forum the things we have here, the knowledge and exercises, have helped many a man. Of course, as with all things, things should be done properly which simply involves having a brain, reading, asking questions, and understanding. Doesn't seem all that hard to me.Originally posted by Dr Pepper View PostSignificant chance for injury if done improperly. I agree, the Doc is probably just a pill pusher.
Good advice here, read the forums, it helped me immensely, and I'm an old fart.
If your ED is psychosomatic you may need counseling or a friend with benefits.
They're out there, trust me.

Every doc graduates from medical school with essentially the same training and a degree in medicine... MD or DO. They are all the same. Specialized training takes place after med school. I wouldn't be put off by an OBGYN who has further specialized per se... I could actually envision some benefits, like perhaps a greater knowledge and sensitivity towards male hormonal issues (andropause, TRT, etc..) than you might get from your urologist. Sometimes ED and other such issues are not urogenital in origin and a stronger endocrinological basis is needed. Someone with training in ObGYN may have a stronger interest in that area and bring that to the table. I'd do a lot of checking and certainly interview the doc, but the initials would not be a deal-breaker for me.

Ok meeba you have been given lots of good advice. How about you telling us how old you are and why you feel you have ed? Include little things like medical history , overweight, etc and let's see if we all can help. The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

Yep. The only way to get better, more specific advice is to provide specifics of the situation!Originally posted by CUSP82 View PostOk meeba you have been given lots of good advice. I am 29, 5'10" and 155 lbs. I am fit, do cardio and lift weights 3 to 4 times a week. I eat healthily. I've noticed this problem since my first sexual encounter at 16. I do recall from the onset of puberty till around the age of 15, I used to get erections very easily and had no problems maintaining them. I did experience whiplash at the age of 15, which I suspect could have caused my ED. I wasn't sexually active at the time of the incident, so I can't really say if I experienced any sexual dysfunction immediately afterward. I rarely ever get erections without manual stimulation, and even with manual stimulation, it's difficult to achieve and maintain an erection. When I do have an erection, it's usually like a 60% one and I need constant physical stimulation or the erection subsides very quickly. I also suffer from incomplete bowel movements, which means I often feel there is still some remaining stool in my colon after a bowel movement. I suspect it's possible the stuck stool in restricting blood flow to my penis. It is also possible I have an enlarged prostate that causes the stool to get stuck and also causes blood flow impediment. I also notice I have to force out the last few ounces of urine when I urinate and experience some leakage afterward. Sometimes at night, I feel as if I have to perpetually urinate no matter how often I urinate, which also suggest a possible enlarged prostate.Originally posted by CUSP82 View PostOk meeba you have been given lots of good advice.
