  • 19 Year Old -- Recently Onset ED

Wonderful forum you guys have here. It's refreshing to see another group of people aiming to improve themselves

This may run a bit long, but only because I aim to include as much relevant information as possible for you guys. In a sentence, I'm a 19 year old guy in normal health with a recent bout of a few months' erectile dysfunction. Here are the details:

    General Info
    • No known health issues (eg, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)
    • Zero drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
    • Exercise (weightlifting) 4-5 times a week
    • 3000-3500 calorie, fairly balanced diet high in protein and carbs (for bodybuilding)
    • ~160 lbs at just over 6' (no weight issues)
    • Close to zero porn (maybe once a month)
    • Infrequent masturbation (maybe once a week) with slow, calm strokes, no lube, no porn
    • Total testosterone normal (tested this summer)
    • Have achieved rock hard, persistent erections in the past, as recently as about June
    • Desire for sex (drive) and women as high as it's ever been (with the exception of mid-puberty) in my mind, though it's not very well reciprocated down low
    • Have strange appetite issues, potentially due to weird sleep schedule (often 4am - noon)

    History of the Issue
    • Started struggling to get my hardest, and stay hard, this summer. Actually onset while masturbating prior to resuming sex with my ex-girlfriend. Lead me to believe it was performance anxiety, so...
    • Went to Urologist, got Testosterone tested (fine), and he suggested performance anxiety (fairly typical suggestion for my age). However, I've had a number of low pressure sexual situations since then (even masturbating), where I've had erectile issues, which leads me to believe that it's at least partially physiological.
    • Additionally, I've had strange, chronic prostate soreness while sitting. Thought it was prostatitis (inflamed prostate), but the urologist said I didn't have any of the other symptoms (urinary issues, etc.)
    • I started a Kegel Routine of 50 ten second holds every other day. I am confident in my form (the pee-holding muscles), and I see my testicles lift with each repetition. I saw considerable improvement in EQ, approaching where I was at when I was younger, though maybe only 70% there. Also helped with prostate pain.
    • To counter-act some tightness and fairly quick ejaculation, I added Reverse Kegels. However, I believe I overshot the mark, and started slacking on my kegels. My EQ declined.
    • Presently, my EQ is such that: 1) I get no morning wood. 2) My erections aren't nearly as full as they used to be, and at times I can't get erect at all through self-stimulation. 3) Erections subside alarmingly quickly without stimulation (maybe 3 seconds at worst) 4) The 'rush' of arousal is entirely absent. 5) When I can get erect, it sometimes takes a Herculean effort (several minutes of careful stimulation). 6) I don't believe it's all that psychological, since I'm still able to achieve semi-hard ejaculation, and the earlier kegeling did help. 7) I should add that after my first attempt at kegels, while I didn't have morning wood or a rush of arousal, I did have erections that seemed solid and persistent enough for penetration.

    Game Plan
    1. Begin improved kegel routine. Daily: 2 sets of 100 kegels, 60 reverse kegels, 4 sets of 30 second holds with 30 seconds rest in between, and 1 set of 2 minute hold. I don't believe this is overtraining, since I'm generally not sore the next day so far, but let me know if it is.
    2. Eat and sleep well, including fruit and vegetables, and drink plenty of water.
    3. Start KingPole's 5G's (thanks KingPole!)
    4. Consult a urologist over winter break

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. I'm sure the members of this forum understand the profound effects of this condition. I'm willing to go through anything to fix this, and get the kind of raging wood I used to have (I'm only 19!)

    Thanks for reading!

    Mechanics

You have come to the right place, and thank you for joining us in the Gym.

I think your problem is not physiological but rather out of anxiety, good thing that you don't watch porn and are keeping it healthy too.

Easing in to a balanced Kegels and Reverse Kegels routine will definitely help and so should manual PE exercises, here is a good start https://www.pegym.com/forums/beginne...cess-here.html

And please make sure to read the safety part with great concentration as well as the stickies of this sub-forum and every other one you chose to visit.

    Good Luck.

I don't have much advice because you already have things figured out. Good for you.

This one comment, however, did catch my attention. Did you know that strange appetite issues is often a sign of mineral deficiencies? I have no idea if there is a connection between that and ED, maybe, who knows. But start taking a high quality mineral and essential mineral supplement. It's cheap, couldn't hurt, and might even work.

Anxiety is definitely a good point. The very belief that I have a problem makes it a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. In addition to the exercises and supplements, I'll try some simple visualization: Affirm that I have a perfectly healthy penis, and imagine a successful night. Block out all negative thoughts and doubts, especially in the moment.

@Pegasus: Nope; the closest I've gotten to roids is an L-Arginine supplement that I took for a few weeks to try to combat my 'problem.' That and maybe 10 times with some pre-workout mix, so I don't think it's related to bodybuilding.

                  Hey Mechanic, let's talk:

-I have been dealing with psychological ED for almost a year now. It has so many awful circumstances and consequences, I'm really sorry to hear you have to go through all this.

-I am also a weight lifter, so tell me about your routine. Do you focus on every body part in the workout, or do you take the body builder approach by working on one large muscle group per day?

-Also, can you tell me what supplements you take? I have a very hard time seeing the issue being in there, but it's worth a look.

-Don't worry about the lack of erections when you try to masturbate. I have the same problem. See, most guys have their anxiety around being with another person, but some of us have it completely within ourselves, where the lack of the boner alone is what gives us anxiety. We then go to masturbate to see if we can do it alone. There is nothing erotic or sexually stimulating about that. That's why you can't get your boner going there.

-As for the lack of morning wood, how are you sleeping lately? I find that I get morning wood when I sleep well because I am waking up just the one time. I have caught myself waking up at 4:30, 5:15, 6:00 AM, etc with a boner (you can't really tell the EQ when you're sleeping), but when I ultimately wake up to face the day, I have nothing. The sleep schedule tends to affect that.

-You appear to not be a chronic masturbator, so I don't see a problem there. How is your sensitivity though?

All in all, I need to hear what you have to say, but I believe you have the same problem I do. We'll talk more as you respond to those things, but if you want, you can always inbox me and we can talk more. I'm still dealing with this, but I feel as though I'm close to my breakthrough. I take it as a duty to help others in a similar spot because no one should have to go through with this. Especially at 19.

Hey Bandicoot, thanks for the reply

                    - I do the bodybuilder approach. My rotation is generally Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, rest, Shoulders/forearms, Legs, rest. End up in the gym 4 or 5 times a week.

-Currently don't take any bodybuilding supplements, so I know that's not the issue. Going to start the 5G's on Christmas.

-That's a good point. Can't get an erection if you're obsessing over your ability to get one. My ED has always been mild in the first place, but I've seen great results after only a week of getting back into a kegel routine with renewed vigor (see original post). Even throughout the day I can tell that my penis has much more blood circulating through it, and EQ is up. Interesting to note that EQ is better while standing, as well. The nice thing about exercises and supplements is that they can help both psychological and physical ED. They improve your circulation and strength of your pelvic floor and all that, but they also boost your confidence, and make you really believe that you're solving the problem.

-Interesting point about the morning wood. I don't wake up until noon, so I guess it's pretty possible that I miss it. But I've woken up at that time in the past without issue, so I'm not sure.

-Sensitivity is fine -- I don't have to smack it for hours, but I'm not a hair trigger either. Pelvic floor exercises have actually increased pleasure quite a bit, probably because of the additional circulation. It's a nice benefit.

All in all, I'm beginning to relax a bit about the whole thing. I'm really confident that a month of rest, good food, dedicated exercise, and the 5G's plus a multivitamin will put me right where I want to be.

                      Hey, anytime.

First, a recommendation. Try going chest & biceps and back & triceps. The logic behind that is you'll get better lifts rather than working with semi-exhausted muscles. Since the back & bis and chest & tris are connected in the workouts, you'll never hit your maximum lifting potential. I made the switch a year ago, and it has worked wonders.

At your age, 4-5 times is great. I go 4 times every week unless I'm hurt. If you go too often, you wear out your body, so I think we're fine. Given that you are using the BB approach, I think that won't have any impact here either.

As for supplements, I highly advise you take protein within 30 minutes at the end of each workout. That will give you an immense boost in your muscle growth. I can't explain how much of the workout is wasted without this. I'm lactose intolerant, so I have to use a whey isolate, but it depends on you. From there, I also suggest an omega 3 fatty acid. I use the 3-6-9 omega. This helps control the fats in your body, giving you better, well, everything, lol. After that, we can talk more as you get older.

Great to hear about the kegels. I've been working them more and more into my day of late and I wonder if it's tied into my own improvement. Note that I am 10 years older than you, so I won't have the same capabilities that you will, but we're still in the same ballpark here. But yeah, if you really believe what you're doing helps, it will.

Why do you wake up so late? Sleep is so important not just to working out, but to erections as well. Most people figure you need 8 hours of sleep every night, no matter what. Not true, some need more, some need less. However, the timing is vital as well. If you're ready for sleep at 11 PM, but don't get to bed until 3 AM, you're going to need more sleep if you take the later option. Think of yourself as a battery. If your phone battery is at 20%, it will need more time to charge than if it were at 60%.

I agree completely. And have the right self-talk. Believe that you have the best cock on the planet and we'd all die to be able to do what you can. Results are just phenomenal. I'm always around if needed, either with the work out suggestions or this.
