  • HELP! Antidepressant causing ED

My doc has me on Viibryd 60mg QAM and while I can get it up, it doesn't stay up and it takes forever for me to get off. It's either my Viibryd or the Vyvanse or the combination of the two.

    Effing brain.

Depression is very hard to live with as you know. Talk to your doc and explain the issue and see what he thinks is best for you. Sex can take a back seat while you treat the problem.

Vilazodone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vilazodone (United States trade name Viibryd) is a serotonergic antidepressant developed by Clinical Data for the treatment ofmajor depressive disorder. The chemical compound was originally developed by Merck KGaA (Germany).[2] Vilazodone was approved by the FDA for use in the United States to treat major depressive disorder in 2011.[3][4][5]
Vilazodone acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (IC50 = 2.1 nM; Ki = 0.1 nM) and 5-HT1A receptorpartial agonist (IC50 = 0.2 nM; IA = ~60–70%).[6][11] It has negligible affinity for other serotonin receptors such as 5-HT1D, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C.[11][12] It also exhibits negligible inhibitory activity at the norepinephrine and dopamine transporters (IC50 = 56 nM for NET and 37 nM for DAT).[1]
Could be a little bit of both, but mainly the Viibryd.

Serotonin acting drugs are known to cause sexual dysfunction of all sorts.
Although, your stimulant may also be contributing, as they both tend to increase vasoconstriction.

Talk to your doc about altering the dose, dose timing, or combination, look into the stuff and figure out between you and your doc what is best for ya. Make sure that other factors are not contributing, such as poor diet, MSG-intake, hormones , other drugs etc.

i know people love their doctors but they are here to sell you drugs which is almost never the answer.

first i would recommend getting off anti depressants because itll only make you reliant on them.

you should look up natural cures. like walking outside in the sun taking in all the fresh air and looking at things from a distance. improving your posture helps. seeing the colour white alot helps. the motion of boucing on a trampoline is said to help depression too. other then that take diaphragmic breathes of fresh air the sun is great for positve attitude.

ps if your uncircumcised try pulling your skin back and expose the head. or get it wet with warm water.

Although I am certainly for mind over matter, some people have a significant and traumatic past that may contribute to their depressive symptoms, and some even have genetic factors to the point where "taking a walk in the sun" may not be a plausible treatment method....much less improvement at all for those who have no obligation, energy or will to even do so in the first place.

Depression as a diagnosed disorder is much more serious. There are more factors, and it isn't a simple mind thing when biochemical and / or hormonal disturbances are involved.

I ALWAYS advocate mind over matter, but with an issue like depression, or severe anxiety - often the treatment must be more broad scale, thus, it is heavily arrogant that you would suggest this as a method for those given an accurate diagnosis of depression!

Imagine sitting in a dark room all day, in despair and loneliness, and feeling like you have nothing to live for, or that you go through periods of time where you have ZERO energy, no motivation to do anything, and one simple comment puts you in the dust, one negative interaction will shift you into hopeless ness, this is how some depressives feel! And it is NOT always purely psychological but also biochemical.....

Lastly, please do NOT advocate just going off meds COLD TURKEY, this is very dangerous and can cause people some harm, in the event OP's choice is to switch meds, or go off of it entirely, he should taper, and talk to his doc first. We do NOT know his entire background and should not make any assumptions.

How long have you been taking The Vybrid? I began taking it a couple years ago and now that I think about it that's when my ED symptoms began to appear. Things have improved since then, but I could still use some more improvement. There could very well be a connection between Vybrid and ED.

Now to veer off topic i bit.

Good God man!!! Don't EVER recommend anyone to stop a Dr.s treatment!!! If you haven't read corageon's post then read it. If you have read it again!

Would you also tell a cancer patient to stop chemotherapy and start going for walks in the sun? Clinical depression is one of the most misunderstood illnesses by the general population. IT IS NOT something you can snap out of! It is a genetic chemical imbalance in the brain. Medications are used to bring things into balance again just as taking high blood pressure medication will bring blood pressure back into balance. Life can be going perfectly when it strikes. There is a huge difference between someone being depressed do to out side influences, such as a traumatic event in there life, and clinical depression that comes from the chemistry within. Please do not give recommendations on something you know nothing about.

Yeah, I'm committed to the anti-depressant. Suicidal ideation and all that. Seems to help. I've been on it for a couple of months now. I had to go without it for a couple of days and, man oh man, the withdrawal effects were harsh. Brain zaps. And yeah, I could stand to get some more sunlight and work out at the gym more often. I have a membership but haven't been in about three months.

Anyway, on a side note, not saying you should do this but if you do, you do so at your own risk: Ignore the expiration date on sample bottles of Viagra. They're meaningless. I had a bottle in the cabinet from 2012 and took one tonight. Got some lead in my pencil, let me tell you! Could have knocked over a 7-11 with it.

SSRI's will do that to you.

May I ask why you're on an antidepressant and a stimulant at the same time?

Everyone can benefit from exercise and sunlight especially during the winter months. It relieve very little of the the symptoms of depression, if it is true clinical depression, and I suspect thats what you have. I'ts hard to be motivated to do anything, exercise when you are depressed. I know about the brain zaps, I've had them myself.

Some, maybe even most, medications, will be effective after the expiration date as long as the main chemicals are stable. I never throw away something like tylenol or aspirin after the expiation date. The manufacturers are required to put a date on everything. I am not recommending anyone do this because you don't know what is stable and what is not.
