  • 'isolation' exercises and other benefits

I want to discuss acouple exercises that I do. Tricep 'skull crushers'; now Im doing these with a barbell on the floor so it has a deadlift inertia dynamic to it. But I am certain that this exercise works much more than just triceps. I am convinced that there are back muscles that are involved heavily in this movement. Also not an exercise, but definitely an engagement- legs, when knees are bent and feet flat on the floor. Also bicep curls. You stand there and curl a band. There is something more happening than just your bicep. I hypothesise that there is some sort of shoulder exercise in a standing bicep curl. I have thought about shrugs to but I think that is a straight 'isolation'.

So you are saying few exercises are pure in their isolation . Is there any particular relevance?

I have been amused by the difference in outlook between Pilates which tries to isolat some small muscles that are rarely isolated and crossfit which favours compound exercises .

The old time powerlifters were interesting they did of course squat bench and d lift but they also liked lying tricep extension and bent row.

I don't understand what's the problem. Here is my favorite workout: . I do it 3 times a week and that is quite enough for me. Just try another methods of training or consult a professional fitness trainer.
