  • Red scaly rash behind ears. It's growing. Ideas?

So behind each ear where the ear meets the head, there are these raised red patches. Over time they scale over, and if I scratch the scales off, the area underneath is moist. This moisture eventually forms new scales. It's been behind one ear quite a bit longer than the other, so one patch is beginning to spread into my hair. Any ideas what it is? any ideas on treatment?

I'll admit to a certain amount of paranoia on my part. It seems like it could be Seborrheic Dermatitis, which I've read can be a sign of a weakened immune system caused by HIV, but less than 1% of the US population has HIV, and the majority of my sexual experience has been in Montana, the state which ranks 47th for HIV cases. Some 85% of those cases were male (I don't have sex with males), and there were no known cases in my county that were female. Also, one of my previous sexual partners who I had a LOT of sex with recently got pregnant, and as standard procedure received the full range of STD testing. Only one she tested positive for was HPV. Logic tells me I'm being paranoid over nothing. Oh, and I did use an Ora Quick HIV test when the fear and uncertainty became too much. Negative.

I guess I'm just trying to see if anyone else has experienced this, anyone who doesn't have HIV. I think it started shortly after I began frequently wearing a head set with over the ear headphones, Makes for a lot of moisture buildup behind the ears, especially when my room gets hot. I think those warm, moist conditions could be a likely cause.

Recommend you visit a dermatologist. Could be eczema.
