  • A new bodybuilder here...

Hi, i just started working out regularly after realizing that i gain muscle very easily. So who here are also into bodybuilding (i already know that many of you are) and in what shape are you now and how long did it take and what kind of workouts? You dont have to answer everything
    Goal: EQ 10.

I wouldn't say I'm a body builder, mainly because of my physical build - I'm tall and skinny (183cm/6' and 68kg/150lbs). But I do work out 6 days a week. I'm pretty happy with my overall physique, I just need to bulk up. Tried a couple of things, not much sucsess so far. So I'm pretty much the opposite to you. I think it is due to my metabolism. Around Christmas, I didn't workout much at all and ate lots of crap, but my weight remained exactly the same.
    Current (20/02/2012) - BPEL: 7.3" (+0.8") MEG: 4.6" (+0.3")

Yeah man its alot about genes. You can also consider yourself lucky in a way because now you can literally eat anything without gaining fat. I gain all mass easily so i have to watch very closely what i eat. I would suggest that you eat VERY MUCH something like chicken and something with carbs (good for some1 naturally thin). You must almost eat to the point where your full almost constantly and i bet you would see great results
      Goal: EQ 10.

You started working out after you found you could put on muscle easy?? How on earth did you figure it out? It took me three or four years of believing I was a hard-gainer before I found that's true for me too, provided I work out heavy and eat right. Then I put on around 30 kilos of mostly muscle in the next three.
Been in a bit of a slump for the last six months, found out I had cervical spondylosis and also they closed the gym in the office complex where I work, the buggers. As a result my arms have gone down from 17" to 15", but sadly my weight has stayed mostly the same.
Just got my bench and weight set delivered to my home last week, starting the climb up the mountain once again.

I'm not a bodybuilder. I don't read the magazines, I don't want to enter into competitions and I don't want to gain huge muscle mass.
I'm more of a healthy-minded individual with an addiction to physical activity.

            I'm 5'8, 180 pounds, vegetarian. I can bench 250, squat 260, dead lift 230.
During the summer, I like going along the bike path and race cyclists on foot.
I do strength training, resistance training and power training. When I hit the gym, I pretend I'm an athlete.
I love doing plyometrics. It's my goal to be able to jump over a person one day.
I think I'm in pretty excellent shape. I'm very well defined. I can look fat depending on what I'm wearing, but my abs can show through two layers of clothes.

I don't measure my arms or anything. I'm not huge. I like to stay small and agile. I like combat training, martial arts and all that jazz so I fear that I'll lose out on speed and agility if I bulk up too much. I also think that there's a point of loss of return in gains when it comes to size/strength.
As someone who likes fighting, I believe the bigger they are, the harder they fall (:
I am also pretty flexible. I'm working on doing the splits

It took me about a year or two to get to where I am today. I take my workouts to the extreme though. I do it as often as possible (every day, sometimes twice when I can) and I eat as healthily as I can. I don't know why - it just became a passion of mine.

I started off at as a runner weighing at 9 stone, this was when i was around 19 years of age. I stopped running long distances and hit the gym, my highest weight i got to was 14 and a half stone (pretty damn ripped too). I am going on holiday in May so my latest goal was to drop down to 13 or less stone. Doing this gets me showing all my veins, i love this look! I am now at just under 14 stone, it is going good.

I won't post what weight i can move, purely becasuse i have already done it in this thread...

My motto is "Go heavy or go home!"

My ultimate goal is to be 20 stone, fully muscled with hardly any fat oneday. I will slowly go up to that as i get older, but while i am still young i want to be at a weight that i still feel really light on my feet.

i like toadstools approach to exercise, thats what it should be about. having functional strength, relative strength, balance and agility. I consider myself a bodybuilder, i began training with isolated movements(even though its technically impossible because muscles work synergistically) compound movements as well but the isolated movements were only to develop every muscle to its own fullest potential because i used to have the goal of being on stage one day. My dad was a bodybuilder so he has trained me since i was 18. However , especially lately i have focused my training more around bodyweight exercises, more cardio and focusing on being healthy, flexible, agile and powerful too. My favorite cardio is running up river banks, jumping from rock to rock or running out in the woods...theres something about that environment that brings such a more natural element to your cardio making it more fun and liberating. I love the endorphins cardiovascular exercise releases, especially high intensity interval training. I still lift heavy when my dad and i train together but on my "off days" i spent them doing gymnast like movements..headstands, cartwheels, pushups, one handed pushups, pull ups, one arm pull ups lol working with your body is sooo much less stressful on your joints.

my stats if anyones interested.im 20 years old 195 5'11

Wow you have and can do all that at the age of 20? You sound like a Mr Olympia in the making!

I totally agree with the environment comment, there is nothing like it. My fave is flipping logs on the beach repeatedly! Wish i lived closer to a beach so that i could do it more often.

I'm a Personal Trainer and natural bodybuilder. I have done two shows, taking this year off. I'm currently 5'11" 208lbs @ 11% body fat. I last stepped on stage at 184lbs last april. I live a healthy lifestyle and rarely use supplements of any kind, when I do I may take protein, BCAAs, and maybe Creatine.

I currently do a 4 day split, Push/Pull/Lower/Accessory. My average workout takes about 35 minutes if I don't do any cardio.

man i am in great company! lol thanks gymboi4eva i have an advantage though, my dad was a bodybuilder in the 80's and trained with some of the greats (Nate LeBlanc,Bob Riches, Rick Cuhna, and Frank " the chemist "zane to name a few ) So i have definitely had alot of help getting to where i'm at..i wasnt always fit though i didnt pick up weights until i moved in with my dad when i was 18, he helped me forge the body i now have.I need to start doing more compound movements like that, its hard finding a good park around here or any really open space where i could bring a tire tractor with me lol i love that mixture of strongman training, calisthenics and strength training...you really have to embrace all methods of fitness to get the best results. Whats your opinion on discontinuing all so called"isolated" muscle movements? (curls,tri-extensions)?i know they have their place(espcially on stage) having that full development and symmetry of every muscle group is a necessity, but these are merely aesthetic and i was thinking that by replacing my direct bicep, tricep work with more compound movements i could exert more energy therefore ,recruit even more muscle fibers. You never go all out on a set of bent over rows when you have bis to do next ya know? haha well you may but your arms will not be at optimal performance for your curls. I know thats why some people reverse the order of the exercise every workout to make sure lagging bodyparts get their time to shine as well, however, i feel maybe they are superfluous?

I workout religiously and haven't taken even a week off in 11 years. Well, that's not true, the Marines didn't allow weight training, so if you minus those 3 months then what I said earlier is true. I'm 6'0" hovering at around 220 lbs. I have all the abs showing so I'd say I'm around 8% bodyfat. My PFT for the Marine Corps is a 20:05 three mile run time, 20 pull ups and 100 crunches. I'm an officer so that run time isn't incredibly competitive, but my size has it's advantages. I haven't measured an body parts in a long time; I grew out of that silly phase. I do cross fit, powerlifting and bodybuilding all mixed up together. The three exercises that have never left the routine are deadlifts, incline benches and squats. Everything else constantly rotates. I also do 60-100 pull-ups every workout regardless of schedule--well, except leg days.
