  • Question about particular supplements.

So, I saw these two supplements and I don't know which one is "better". Let me just show you.

This one has Ginkgo, Ginseng and Guarana.

The other one (pretty much the same cover, but different supplement) has Ginkgo, Ginseng and Selenium.

Now I don't know what particular effects Guarana and Selenium have. I already know about the other two Gs from reading around here.

So I want to ask you guys, which supplement would you advice me to take? What are the effects and characteristics of these two variations and how would that affect the body? Anybody know of any studies that relate to this?

    Thanks

I just did a quick google search so my response won't be particularly insightful...

I would go with the Selenium as it is an amino acid that is essential for regulating the thyroid

Guarana is high in caffeine and has cognitive benefits, but since caffeine is a vasoconstrictor it might be antagonistic with the Ginkgo Biloba

Hmm, according to wiki, "In humans, selenium is a trace element nutrient that functions as cofactor for reduction of antioxidant enzymes, such as glutathione peroxidases". Doesn't green tea have antioxidant enzymes too? But since green tea already has caffeine, I see selenium as a better option.

Yes green tea has caffeine in it, but compared to coffee it is very low, I think it is roughly three times less per cup

Yes green tea is a very efficient anti-oxidant, I would suggest that you continue drinking it and take selenium in conjuction

Well they ran out of them so I bought ginkgo today (6000 mg) and will buy ginseng tomorrow. Would Panax be better or Siberian Ginseng?

Hey, so I bought Panax Ginseng. Is it fine if I take the ginseng pills with ginkgo pills and green tea with my breakfast?

Timing wise, that is fine. You might want to read up on the various types of ginseng (wiki). Some are CNS suppressing (American) aka calming, others CNS stimulating (Manchurian). Blood pressure is a consideration for some when taking the CNS stimulating ginsengs.

There is much BS surrounding ginseng in my opinion - however I can vouch for the calming abilities of American Ginseng in times of stress.

Really? I couldn't find American Ginseng here, I'll read up on it. Siberian Ginseng isn't that good really ... so I stuck with Panax. What about Ginkgo then?

Why not stick with the five Gs which has been shown anecdotaly on the forum to be effective. I personally have not seen any meaningful improvement in my severe ED after using it for six months, but I may be beyond its capabilities. however, I still mix my l-Argenine Ethel ester in green tea and still take daily ginkgo. I will take any bit of help I can get.

Oh I'm not doing it for ED, my days have gotten longer and I do more exercises now, so it's pretty much for wellbeing and energy throughout the day. I think I do get a bit more boners now, but I'm not sure.
