eating habits dont necessarily need to change. food type needs to change. your body is hungry for a specific volume of food and nutrient density in order to feel full. the object shouldnt be just to decrease calories by lower volume. it should be to feel full while decreasing calories and giving enough nutrition to mantain a full feeling. this is done by eating calorically sparce foods with high nutrient density
when losing weight, i strongly urge people to drop meat/dairy completely, incorporate more beans, and make veggies at a minimum 50% of your diet

I disagree, partially. Vegetable proteins are vital, so yes, a high veggie diet is important.Originally posted by bigmoe5067 View Postwhen losing weight, i strongly urge people to drop meat/dairy completely, incorporate more beans, and make veggies at a minimum 50% of your diet
The number of diabetics soared when the current food pyramid was introduced in the early 80's, and continue today. "Healthy whole grains" and excessive carbs spike glucose levels in the blood. If not used by the body, it is stored directly as fat. There are more fat people than ever, despite having a gym on every corner.
Animal protein burn over twice the calories to digest as plant protein. It also promotes testosterone production. I am not suggesting that meat be overconsumed, but the correct selection of meat and fish in reasonable portions can be part of a healthy diet. Same with dairy, especially cheeses.
Actually grains containing gluten (wheat, barley) spike blood glucose more than table sugar. They should be restricted, if not eliminated. Rice, beans, and potatoes should be eaten in moderation. There are more products coming out that contain flaxseed, including breads, wraps, crusts, etc. Flaxseed has zero affect on blood glucose.Last edited by WalrusGumBoot; 04-11-2012, 10:17 AM.

who said anything about excessive grains? a diet of 50% veggies 10% fruit 20% nuts/beans 10% legumes and 10% grain/oat/dense carb will do just fine.
beans do not need to be eaten in moderation once you build a tolerance to them. they also aid in carb intake for diabetics as they have almst no affect of blood glucose levels
the amount of processing done to grains affects insulin spikes. you cannot generalize. not too mention the the glycemic load being reduced significantly by the increase in fiber. unrefined whole wheat does not increase blood glucose dramatically. i get most of my dense carbs through oats.
veggies also help the body convert hormones into testosterone.
any diet with an excess of 10% being attributed to animal protein puts you in a higher risk pool for COPD, and cancer

Back to Dairy as i think people should know
- there is a strong association between lactose and ischemic heart disease
- there is a strong association between dairy and bladder, prostate, colorectal, and testicular cancers
- dairy fat is the primary source of exposure to dioxin, a higher up on the EPA's known cancer causer list.
- cheese increases acidity, which aids in calcium removal
-one study showed that 2.5 servings of dairy a day increases prostate cancer risk by 30%
- dairy protein increases IGF-1, which people like because it stimulates growth. it also stimulates growth of cancer cells, specifically in the prostate
- high lactose consumption increases the risk of ovarian cancer by nearly 40%
the problem is low fat milks are lactose heavy, whish has a variety of health implications. high fat milk has less lactose but dairy fat has its own just as negative health implications.
more people too are lactose intolerant than we realize. the symptoms are just so mild that we assume, fatigue, upset stomache, elevating allergic responses and other mild symptoms are coming from another source.
and as for calcium as a source, milk isnt even a good one. per 100 calories milk has 189mg of calcium. thats excluding how skewed the number really is considering how poorly absorpable milk calcium is. bok choy however, has 775 mg of calcium per 100 calories. collard greens had 539mg.
lets just say, cow milk was meant for baby cows

meat
- raises cholesterol
- promotes cancer
- increases our acidity which
--promotes bone loss
-- accelerates aging
-- promotes kidney disease
i do not have a problem with people who have a high metabolic rate and are very active working some fish and egg whites into their diet. the fish should been a low mercury count fish (tilapia, flounder, sole, trout, cod, or salmon)

The cancer dangers in cheese and other dairy products are probably more due to hormones and antibiotics being given to the cattle than the inherent nature of cheese. The French as a nation are very lean compared to other Western countries, and live longer and healthier than more health paranoid nations like the U.S., and there is no question their diets are proportionately higher in cheese and other food and drink that we would consider bad for you. I think the EPA and FDA would better serve our interests if they focus more on attacking bio-engineered foods and food additives such as aspartame and MSG instead of trying to control our selection of food by fear.

im not going to argue with you but the rates and prevalence of disease is very relative. americans are the least healthy, but all 1st world countries display the same health issues. the french are not excluded. most data collected in nutritonal data of significance is not done in america because of the excess variability. its best done isolating small tribes of people whom have distinct eating habits.the hormones and anti-biotics are very damaging, but dairy none the less is unatural for human consumption. the fat itself has dioxin. dioxin is not produced from the hormones or anit-biotics. also the correlation to cancer is with lactose, which too is not a product of processing.the the populations with the longest lifespans statistically eat vegetation predominant diets, have BF% under the set recomendation, and had lived lives of significantly less strss. nutrition research and the epa/fda are currently in a state of conflict because the studies show how backward our recommendations are
