  • Dr.Esselstyn plant based diet is it a scam?

So ive decided to become a vegan and follow Dr.Esselstyns diet however I was wondering if you guys thought certain claims made by Esselstyn are realistic, or just claims to make a quick buck.

    1. A vegan diet can reverse heart disease
    2. A vegan diet can restore healthy blood pressure without medication.

Well wish me luck, its day 1 of no meat for me. Only negative side effect is a headache, but i have considerably less anxiety.

Hippocrates - "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"

It most certainly true. Our bodies run off of vitamins and minerals - nutrients. Majority of people eat high caloric food with LOW nutritional value so they still are essentially starving their bodies still and making it weak and more likely to illness and diseases. Nutrients feed your cells and when you have strong healthy cells, you prevent cancer which is just a mutated cell and all other illnesses.

Nutrients are the most powerful medicine. A diet majorily made up of vegetable and fruits will dramatically enhance your health and overall life style.

      Check out this food pyramid.

      Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian Pyramid

Think of this - When you cut yourself, what does your body do? It heals the wound. Now if properly providing your body with nutrients, why couldn't your body heal itself the same way on the inside? IT CAN!

A highy suggested method of obtaining lots of nutrients from mass amounts of vegetables is Juicing. I do it everyday and feel so alive. It is wonderful. I am feeding my body what it needs and it treats me well!

Medication is not the answer. The med industry is a business set out for money not truly for ones health. Unfortunately.

A healthy diet will lead to a healthy and prosperous life. May you have all the best of luck to the healthy road ahead.

Claims like this are dangerous. Vegan diets can prevent just about any kind of western society illness and extend life provided you stick to non-processed whole foods, but there is no such thing as reversing. There is a limit to the recovery ability of the body. However, continueing with a bad diet will cause further damage and switching to a healthy vegan diet will prevent that.

Most screwed up blood pressure is because of stress and too much sodium compared to potassium. A vegan diet is much higher in potassium if you avoid grains and has virtually no sodium if you stay away from processed and canned foods. This lowers blood pressure, I'm not sure if it lowers it enough in the healthy range for stress/genetic high blood pressure to quit medication.

ANY healthy diet with lower sodium intake will have these effects to a certain degree, though. There's a big difference between 5 oz of meat per day and 50 oz.

You have to watch for b12,k2,d3 and certain other vitamins/minerals on the vegan diet, maybe this diet would be good in the past but the soils are awfully depleted.I am a vegeterian since 2011(before that i was a pesceterian) but i limit how much animal protein i eat.Animal protein is really bad so i agree with esselstyn.I either get my animal protein from whey or from goat's milk/cheese.
