  • Stretching the Lateral Rotators and Other Muscles Involved in Hip Flexion

Everyone knows (hopefully) people's muscles tighten and shrink if they are not used. By "not used", I'm referring to one sitting on their ass in front of the computer all day. Let me tell you my story
I gamed from 5th grade to 12th grade. I participated and excelled in sports all my life. Sounds good, right? No problems there? True, everything was honky-dory - except that my penis never really grew. About a year ago I broke my leg. My surgeon told me I wouldn't need any rehab, even though I would be non-weight baring for 3 months. Now, here's where things get interesting. I tried to get back into shape as soon as I was released. I was too the point where I was running 3 miles every other day. After about 3 months, I had to stop. Why? Simple. My hips were tight. My knees didn't have proper range of motion. Adductors and Abductors needed to be stretched. I'm not sure completely what my body problems fully entail, but I can tell you now that I will figure this problem out.
The lateral rotators of the hip allow the quad portion of the leg to rotate outward. Think of this as "opening" the hips. Now, if these muscle attachments are tight (which, throughout my sports-playing, life they have been) the quad muscles are stuck pulled into the stomach/penile region. Now I believe stretching these muscles (probably others, as well) will allow greater bloodflow to the penis and fix the angle of my pelvis. Also, I'm foam rolling the adductors, abductors, piriformis, gluteas major and minor, and hammies, and calves. I feel this should fix my wide hips and pull them up into the abdominals.
    Any thoughts?
I will keep you updated with this as I have to do it to be able to be active again.

SirStretchy One word for you, YOGA. I was in a real bad accident and broke my pelvis in 7 places. I was in a wheel chair for 3.5 years after that. So imagine your problem to the 100%. The only thing that keeps me moving and active is Yoga. If I don't keep my entire hip area in shape then the hip rotators pop out of place. Ask my husband (Looking4More) how good I got to be at popping them back in before I discovered yoga instead of all the darn physical therapy. Any how Yoga will tax you at first but it will do what you need. Good luck!

      Hmmmm
I feel like what I am doing is like baby yoga
Maybe I do need the help of a yogi, though
Is there a trick to finding one who will really give you a body examination or do they just correct you during the class?

They will correct you during class, make sure you are doing a REGULAR Yoga class not an aerobic Yoga class. The class should move from a warm up to many positions without any kind of jumping (jumping means it is an aerobic Yoga class). You can even do Yoga at home but I will not suggest this until you get really good at doing the poses with proper form under a Yoga Master supervision. Once you master the poses, you can do your practice at home from memory or follow a good Yoga DVD. Hope this helps!
