  • Ginseng and ginkgo questions!

I've been taking ginkgo 2000 mg 2-3 times a day for a year (give or take a few months).
Ginseng was 2500 mg a day for a similar time as ginkgo (though a few months less) now I've recently changed it to 500 mg 2 times a day for a month and a half.

    So the questions are:
    1) Now that my dick's been fine for a long time, how long should I continue taking these supplements?
    2) Any long time consumers of these herbs? If so what are your experiences?

(p.s database for ginkgo GINKGO Monograph: Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database
database for ginseng, panax Ginseng, Panax: MedlinePlus Supplements )

    3) For what other purposes could I use these two for? I workout frequently so I was wondering if they could aid my digestion.
    4) Anything else I should watch out for?

    Thanks!

Ginko and Ginseng are helpful for several things, but the primary effect I think you're looking for, since you're posting this on a PE site, is their effect on blood flow. They both assist in healthy blood circulation, which is what you want for EQ. This will also help you with any sort of weight training you do, as well as your overall health. You should be fine taking these long term (I have) but your Ginko dosage MIGHT be a bit high. I'd have to do some research to see, but I've always went with a much lower dose. Also, spreading your dosage throughout the day is a good move. I'd divide that amount among three to five servings, probably best with food. You might also want to consider Arginine/Citrulline supplements, although people on this site hype them up to an unnecessary degree. I've been trying to inform people of a relatively new product called Agmatine Sulfate which seems to be superior to even Arginine and Citrulline. But my best advice to anyone on these products or considering them, is to diet and exercise frequently. Keeping your arteries clear will be like a constant surge of these products.

How long have you been taking them for?

The thing is, 2000 mg is the lowest dosage I could find. Lower ones are mixed with Brahmi or something else and I don't want that, so I just stick with this dosage. I take it with food now, same with ginseng.

Hmm...that's strange. Almost all Ginko products I've seen have capsules between 60-120mg. I've taken Ginko and Ginseng off and on for about three years. I don't cycle because I think It's dangerous not to, I just run out of a supply and don't get around to restocking for a while. These aren't super-serious herbs. I don't think there's going to be too much risk involved unless you just flat out abuse them to an extreme degree.

            What?

So, you're certain that I can take ginkgo at least daily, nonstop with no particular health problems? Or should I just take these on my exercise days?

I'm pretty sure you can take it whenever you want. Just don't go crazy with the dosage. I think It's a lot like someone eating the same type foods every day for their whole life. You could probably incorporate ginseng or ginko into your daily diet as long as you don't go overboard.

I'll just take them once a day now. 2000 mg ginkgo is a lot, and 500 mg ginseng is plenty.

For ginkgo it says on the bottle:
Each tablet contains: Ginkgo Biloba extract equiv to dry leaf (2g) 2000 mg standardised to contain flavonglycosides 10.7 mg, ginkgolides and bilobalide 2.7 mg.

                For ginseng:
                Each capsule contains:
Korean ginseng (panax ginseng) root powder 500 mg.
