  • Need advice on supplements

Can someone help me out with my questions regarding supplements .. I started taking some supplements recently combined with an active lifestyle and a good diet.

These are the supplements I take daily:
    - 1 multivitaminpill (contains all vitamins and minerals for a 100% suggested daily amount, it's a cheap multivitamin so I hope it atleast does something)
    - 2 pills of omega 3 fishoil (I'm getting 553 mg of omega 3 daily, is this healthy?)
    - 1 pill of ginkgo biloba (40mg)
    - 3 cups of lipton green thea
    - 1 Whey protein shake

I also have a bottle of ginseng here but I've red it's not good to combine this with cafeine (and I prefer the green tea over the ginseng)

When should I take wich supplement? How much of each supplement is ideal?

I'm thinking of buying some l-arginine and some l-lycine too to stimulate human growth hormone (HGH) naturally.

    Thanks for answering!

I'm pretty much taking all of these and they're good.

I take them with a meal. I think it's best to have them as early as possible so you don't have too much energy at night.

Although, 3 cups of green tea would probably be too much for me and I might not sleep.

      The ginseng should be fine...

There's something called bioperine which is in black pepper. It is suggested that bioperine helps the body absorb nutrients by a large scale..
I like to try to have a meal (when I take these vitamins and herbs) that would taste good with pepper, like eggs in the morning.

I think the amounts you take are great and I assume it's also the recommended dose for some..

These supplements have pretty much done everything they are known to do for me, and it's been about a couple months. A++

Your multi-vitamin should be taken in the morning and afternoon with food. Ginko should also be taken with food, and feel free to take two or three of those pills throughout the day. You'll be fine. Green tea, I've heard, is best on an empty stomach. Your Omegas should be spread throughout the day if possible. Whey protein can be taken any time, but if you work out, be sure and take between 20-40 grams immediately after. It's a pretty good stack you've got going, but most of this stuff can be attained through a good diet. Including the Arginine you're considering.

@HailEros: if that's you in your avatar you should give me your food and training schedule awesome physique! You seem to know a lot about supps too.

2 multivitaminpills a day? then I get 200% of the daily adviced amount .. There's also zinc and stuff in that vitaminpill .. Isn't it dangerous to take too much? I also eat during the day you know

+ I'm thinking about taking saw palmetto too, I've red it's good against hair loss.

Too much zinc is bad,..I've read it contributes to hair loss or something.
Also..they say that your body doesn't absorb the whole multivitamin.
I've read a lot of good about saw palmetto. I've taken it before. Seemed good.

                    Are you lifting?

                    All you need:

                    Multivitamin
                    Fish oil
Whey protein (if you're serious, casein protein before bed is also good. I personally eat goat cheese before bed instead of another shake though)
                    Creatine

Gingko, green tea, etc. are all optional.

Get L-citrulline instead of L-Arginine, it's far more effective. Only use it on rest days, it has been shown to actually slightly inhibit HGH production on workout days, but increases it on off days.
                    My progress log

What is l citrulline better for than l arginine?

Yeah, that's me. Your standard FDA daily value % isn't necessarily accurate. I've touched on this before. Your actual daily requirements will depend on several factors. I would use the FDA standard as a minimum requirement. So, if you eat well, then one per day should suffice. But just take note that age, gender, overall size, activity, etc...all play a role in how much of a specific vitamin your body will need. And going over the FDA % generally will not cause harm, long as you don't completely overdo it. It's true that too much zinc can be harmful. You can get zinc poisoning if you take in too much. But usually you will not have to concern yourself with harmful effects from taking much more than FDA %. Ever drink an energy drink? Check the B vitamin content. Better yet, check the B vitamin content of a 5 Hour Energy serving (literally THOUSANDS of % FDA daily value). People also commonly superdose with vitamin C, as you'd see from reading the label on the popular Emergen-C product. Saw Palmetto could be beneficial, but it has been known to cause testosterone suppression. The reason for this is complicated, but basically Saw Palmetto effectively reduces the production/effectiveness of DHT, which causes hair loss. Unfortunately, DHT is a by product of testosterone, which means that Saw Palmetto will often indirectly reduce testosterone production. This same principle explains why steroid users often lose their hair prematurely.

Citrulline is simply a precursor to Arginine. Basically, Citrulline enters your body and transforms into Arginine by way of your body's natural metabolism. Essentially, you may acquire a more "pure" type and level of arginine, but whether Citrulline is more effective is debatable. Your best bet is to buy a Citrulline/Arginine combined product. You can find these at GNC.

Great info, thanks. So is it beneficial, in a sense, to take l citrulline in the place of l arginine for reasons such as better blood flow?
