  • Anal Fissure

I have what I presume to be a recurring anal fissure (a small tear in the anal lining) where bright red blood appears on the toilet paper. This always heals within a week or so, but seems to be recurring more often lately especially when I have more frequent bowel movements.

I know there are surgical and medical (nitroglycerin, BP meds, even botox) treatments but since it always heals relatively quickly on its own I'm not really interested in any of these options. Do any of you have this problem? Do you have any ideas to avoid recurrence? People say drink more water, eat fiber, etc. to keep stool soft, but my issue seems to be loose, frequent bowel movements rather than straining to pass hard stool. My understanding is that anal dilation has fallen out of favor as a treatment option, but I wonder if some gentle dilation might help?

Try using baby wipes on days your wipping a lot. Its just like a runny nose that gets wiped to often.

Oh god, I feel for ya! I had one of these, on and off, for maybe 2 or 3 years! I would use the cream that they recommend, it is the same one as for hemmeroids. Everytime it healed up it would open again a few weeks or months later. It was without a doubt the most annoying issue I have ever had in my life. I got it from the shoulder press machine in the gym, the force being pushed down with the seat. I duno, avoid red meats, white carbs etc, anything that will block you up or make your stool hard. Lots of water, veg, fruit etc. Use the cream a few times a day, before you go to bed. And I would do this routine for a long time after you think that it is healed up! Sorry man, this is one of the worst type of injuries you can get in my opinion.

I have had these (or something that sounds like it) for about 8 years. I am happy to say that, since I started kegels, the problem has diminished. I feel for you, as they do hurt a lot when having a bowel movement, and they sometimes burn while just at rest. I hadn't had any luck with the creams, like ANUSOL, or PREPERATION H. TUX pads did provide some relief, but you are not supposed to use them if you're bleeding.
The thing that helped me the most, was taking a hot bath, then apply petroleum jelly directly on the anus. This made BM's easier, but they still hurt a bit. I hope you find something in this post that helps. Keep me posted, as I would be interested in your solution. Thank you.

Since I started using a wash cloth or baby wipes whenever I go at home, I no longer have this issue. It is not possible to get everything with just TP.
