help me reach my goals of weight loss

I talked to my doctor and said I wanted to lose 60 pounds by my birthday which is in 2 and a half months

he talked me down to a more reasonable goal of 60 pounds in one year

any suggestions on what I can do in this cold weather for cardio besides circuit training?

Ford - You need to be a bit more realistic... 60lbs is a lot of weight to lose in even just a year. You will be happier with your results if they are long term. My advice would be to look at your health goals in terms of changes in lifestyle. You will always be evolving as a person during your lifetime. No matter what brought you to where you are now, try to direct all your habits in a positive direction and don't give up on yourself,... dig?

Ford - I've had trouble with weight before, so I know it is something that is tough to get under control. I maintain a very simple health philosophy.... this is it:

        Visualize 2 pie charts.....

the first is a diet/exercise pie chart... diet is 70%, exercise is 30%

the second pie chart represents the exercise portion of the first pie chart,... exercise = 75% weight training,... 25% cardio.

This is my KISS health philosophy, and I'm in the best shape of my life at age 45. Mind over matter bro...

I've heard rapid weight loss sends the body into revenge mode, and it will try & thwart you by regaining plus interest. I have tested this and found it to be so.
What's worked best for me is limit calorie intake every day, do a certain amount of exercise everyday, and do not fall 'off the wagon'.
Lastly, it takes time, and there will be weight fluctuations. Do not Despair.

Hey Fordzilla, the biggest thing will be your eating habits. I gained a lot of weight to immobility due to a car accident and being on a wheelchair and depressed. I lost 100+ pounds back in 1999 in one year and have kept it off. I could only walk when I started and I lost my first 60 lbs that way. After that I started do circuit training, aerobics and yoga. All of these things helped but the food intake was 70% of everything.

I just started weightlifting again after 15 month forced hiatus due to surgery and believe me, I feel great and have been pleasantly surprised to discover, my ability to lift is only about 10 lbs off from where I left of 15 months ago. I personally prefer weights to aerobics.

Two programs that worked great for me, Slim in 6 and Hip Hop Abs, both of these you can do in the privacy of your home and they really slim you down especially in the middle.

Once I lost the 100+, I then did P90X twice and then Insanity. Just keep motivated. After being in a wheelchair for so long, I could not picture myself thin again (I had been a professional model, athlete, body builder and soldier), people said to use a goal picture to inspire me, but I decide to do the opposite. I used a picture at my largest size and weight and posted it on the fridge to reminded what I no longer wanted to be. It worked, just be serious about it, is your health. If I can do it with hips that have been broken in 7 places and a bad left knee, you can too.

I am enclosing a video that was my inspiration, this woman was my inspiration. She was in a wheelchair with MS for 6 years and declining fast. She is now walking and an ambassador for Beachbody. I got to met her in person after I reached my goal, she just happen to be at an event that I got to interpret for Deaf clients. It was awesome to tell the person that inspired me, what she had done for me.

Get a tread mill. Craig's list always has a lot of them and 5 lbs a month equals 60 in a year. That is not too much at all.

Go for 60 this year and good luck, you can do it.

there's just one thing that kinda keeps me depressed and keeping from my goals

I lost my mom 5 and a half years ago or so that made me depressed but my dad was at a whole other level

he started hoarding and he blames me for the mess that's in the house because I move stuff that I no longer want in my room into another room although I know that's not the way to clean or rid the house of junk

it's partially his fault too because I will want to get rid of stuff out of my room to make room for working out and such but when I want to get rid of something my dad will get all pissed and make me keep it thus the never ending cycle of keeping stuff and moving it from one room to another

I know ML4M that insanity and p90x work because I was doing those things when I was in college majoring in kinesiology

however in insanity and p90x you have to work out in a small space that's about the size of a living room or even smaller perhaps a little room

but I gotta explain that my dads hoarding is so severe there is no room to do anything

I just started weight training again but I only have about 3 foot by 5 and a half 6 foot of space to do the workouts and that's in a space as large as my living room actually that is my living room I won't lie

on top of that I know you have to get a medical exam before you start any workout routine and my doctor has cleared me as good to go although I do have certain joint problems that my dad won't let me address with my doctor

I tore my acl playing soccer in high school the coaches had two games for us to play that day they told everyone that if they did not participate that they would get a zero for the day

one game was football the other was soccer thing is the coaches were urging us to play tackle football

without cleats without pads no protection what so ever

I played football in middle school I know that it was unsafe to do so I was supposed to be in athletics but due to mistake on my part I didn't get into athletics and I was in normal PE classes what happened is it had rained the day before and they made us play in wet grass I knew tackle football would be stupid without cleats or pads so I chose soccer

what happened is I fell tore my acl the coaches just told me to walk it off didn't send me to the trainer or nurse or nothing I had to walk up stairs with a injured knee it wasn't until 6 months later that I found out that I found out that my acl was completely gone

when I went in for surgery they over sedated me damaging part of my brain

I have a messed up shoulder now and my dad don't want me to bring it up to the doctor because if they send me in for surgery he's afraid we will all have to go through the anesthesia induced psychosis again

I can retrain my shoulder but thing is I'd need it repaired if I am going to get back in the shape I was in high school

Calories in vs Calories out. Track calories as accurate as you can. You will be surprised how much you normally eat in a day..

I used to eat in excess of 10,000 calories a day

I am lucky I am not actually fatter than I am now

I started eating less and it takes less to fill me up now

I come from a dwarvish household where I am the littlest

my brother ways almost 500 pounds

I am lucky that I only weight 220

eat how you normally eat, and track it as accurate and honest as you can. then after a few days of that cut your calories, nothing drastic though. but enough of a deficit. slow and steady wins the race.
