  • Wheat Belly, by U.S.cardiologist William Davis

Recently read Wheat Belly, written by
    Dr. William Davis, U.S. cardiologist.

I use to think "people say everything
you eat causes cancer in us, just enjoy
life and eat what you want". But looking
more closely, some of this view is true.

My review would be a positive, I believe
Davis does a good job showing the true
nature of what wheat is today, a modified
toxin basically. Just try to eat a meal
without a wheat product, its kind of hard
    actually.

There's a zillion reviews at Amazon for
    anyone interested. In you're interested
in nutrition, this might be a good read
    for you.

I haven't read this book but I have read "Why we get fat," by Gary Taubes and began my journey into a Paleo/primal lifestyle. Wheat and grains are out! I've never felt better and my sex drive is great. My plan is to read Wheat Belly soon :-)

This booked has been debunked over and over as cherry picked studies and bad science. Wheat isn't making anyone fat, overeating is. Nuff said.

And if you really wanted to dig in deeper into this check out the recommendations by the Weston A. Price foundations with regards to soaking, sprouting, souring, and special cooking measures to prepare wheat, legumes, pulses, seeds, and many grains to be more nutritious and rid them of many anti nutrients the plant stores to help itself with sprouting in the harshest conditions. It's really a pain in the ass but it does make everything softer and tastier.

The amount of fat or bloating caused by wheat is minimal. Charles Poliquin has noticed that when he takes a bodybuilder at, say, 8% BF, he'll have them get off wheat products and they will lose a percent or two. Or maybe it was a pound or two. I'm not sure, but the results he found were not astounding.

Good points! I am aware of the other side of the coin, here an example from the
"gluten free " ,"anti wheat belly" crowd:

No Gluten, No Problem: Wheat Belly, Busted

I have a pretty good science background so its easy for me to sift through
          chemical data.

It gets rather tedious when the people doing the "busting" are getting
"busted". lol. But yeah, the author here makes some good points!

Yea, that's a problem. For every one study done, you'll find another that contradicts it and another that "busts" it as a myth.

One thing i've learned is that people are *very* attached to the foods they eat. It doesn't matter how many heart attacks a man will suffer, if he wants to eat beef, he will. Fuck the data, he'll FIND studies that suggest his diet is good for him!

Also consider that any study is done at the perception, opinion and interpretation of the person doing the study. We don't know if these individuals are subject to a confirmation bias or not. We hope they aren't sifting through various data to prove some point of theirs.
Truth is, they'll conduct various tests, get conflicting results and then interpret them. Those interpretations are up to the person doing the studies.

The reality is that the world is not black and white. We're more than likely allowed some wheat and gluten in our diet without causing any harm. That is, unless you have a serious allergic reaction to it. Any sort of extremist, black and white rigid thinking should be considered with caution.

I do not know about all the studies True or False or DeBunked.

              That being said I have been a fitness freak since my competitive Track & Field days. 100, 200, 4 x 100, & 4 x 400.

Since I eliminated Wheat products from my diet I lost 20 lbs and went from a Running back look to a Wide Receiver look. Plus now my Abs are a showing and the Bride ogles me whenever I exit the shower! Good Times.

Regardless of all the studies done on wheat being good or bad, just take a look at the "food" offered here in America that contains wheat. Due to decades of government subsidizing and other factors wheat has become super cheap and ubiquitous in the American (and lesser extent world) food supply (check labels, it shows up where you might not expect to find it). What you find is that the "food" that contains wheat is processed and manufactured to such an extent that it is bad for you regardless of the ingredients. I use the word food in quotations because much of what we Americans eat is a manufactured product meant for taste and not nutrition.

food-like substance. It's sorta kinda like food, but not really. You bring up a very interesting point about wheat. Is the wheat of today the same as it was 100 years ago? Do we consume more or less of it?
