  • Let me pick your minds... Eating for health and longevity.

I'm somehow healthy as I can be, on paper that is. I don't believe I am though. It's not possible with the way that I eat. (I eat fried chicken. That’s it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner). I used to eat hamburgers and biscuits and gravy every day too. I’ve actually digressed from this in the past month or so to only eating fried chicken.

I can and have googled a lot about diets and eating healthy and eating for longevity. You guys on here are constantly dropping great information into my brain and I wanted to get your personal advice or thoughts on a healthy diet.

I've always eaten for one thing. Protein. I supplement the rest. I am no longer going to eat for muscle growth, or even maintenance. I am no longer going to lift weights for this as well. I am interested in healthy bones, joints, muscles, skin, organs, mind, and brain; all in all I want to achieve a perfect balance of health, longevity, and happiness. I will use weight lifting as a supplement to my health.

Please, any advice you may have please share. I know this forum is full of people that have brains full of great information that can help.

I don’t want to swallow a hand full of pills/supplements everyday to pretend like I’m healthy. I want to incorporate whole foods into my diet, not capsules of extract. I am regardless interested in whatever you have to say.

I have a very limited knowledge of a good diet but I can try my best.

There are a few things I've picked up and this is all based on the diet that I follow.

Firstly, chicken is a very good source of protein, however frying it negates from this. Proteins are mainly good because they're one of the hardest for your stomach to digest. That and they help you gain/maintain/repair muscle.

Also, eat 5 times a day and eat small meals. This is what I do, although I'm sure that I haven't quite got it right yet.

My average day consists of breakfast (two clementines and an apple), snack (grapes), lunch (tuna salad), snack (grapes) and dinner (grilled chicken with lots of green veggies and occasionally some pasta).

I also drink a LOT of water (probably 4-5 litres a day).

By no means is this the best diet in the world, you'll be able to find more information than I can give you with a quick google search, probably.

Yeah, I've put back about 150-300 grams of protein a day for several years now. I want to drop my protein intake to 75-100 grams a day. You should consider adding some nuts to your diet, walnuts or cashews.

I think I am going to just eat from a cook book, use whole foods and focus on the foods I'm listing below.

Low fat yogurt, Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, plums, cranberry juice, orange juice, tomatoes, mustard greens, spinach, grapes, avocado, turkey, chicken, tuna, salmon, walnuts, extra virgin olive oil, whole wheat breads/cereals, green/black tea, eggs, and drink a lot more water.
I will continue to take the supps I take now (ZMA, B-Complex, L-arginine, L-lysine) and stop taking the multi-vitamin and get a new one a day focused on men’s health. The animal pack multi-vitamin I’m taking now is overkill for my new goals.

I'll make another post in this thread tomorrow...but just before I log off, I'd like to add that:

Too much protein will drastically decrease your calcium levels.

There is currently a lot of controversy about this. I'll explain myself tomorrow.

Let me finish off where radiohead lefy off. while 150 grams of proteins is not overkill mos body buliderrs put away more than 300 grams. You want at least half of your protien from a calcium/magnesium source. Milk, raw nuts, raw seeds.

Also a high protein diet can cause dehydration so eat plenty of water foods like fruits and vegetables.

For example 60% percent of what i eat is considered living food that would be fruits vegetables raw nuts and seeds, whole grain foods. The other 40% is protein foods.

I LOVE working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I've been practicing this shit now for 20 years. I'm not ripped by any means.........not even close BUT, I'm healthy, within my ideal weight range and I feel great. I take vitamins daily, first and formost. I also monitor my diet very closely. This doesn't mean I don't slip once and a while and something I shouldn't, I just try and limit and control how much "junk" I put into my temple.

I eat alot of protein combined with healthy carbs and veggies/fruit. I drink ALOT of water and I workout a good 5 times per week. Exercising is an important component BUT, diet is more important.

Dad, what is or are your fitness goals? Are you wanting to lose weight, just get healthier, put on lean muscle mass??
It's a tough job being good looking and hung :-)

Everyone is different. Figure out your own body bro. There is no one set 'do this and you're healthy' diet.

To be healthy, inside and out. I've been lifting weights for muscle mass for 10 years. I don't care about what I look like, I've got a nice body with good proportions. I only want to be healthy inside and out.

I just want some snippits of things people have found or discovered that are helpful. Adding ginger to my morning cup of tea type things. Nuts are healthy type shit. You guys have lots of good information I just want you to share it. I can make my own diet, I've worked out long enough I know how I respond to most foods and excersizes. I'm already healthy. I am redirecting my efforts to be healthy (inside and out) from gaining mass. Radiohead and KP both have had great advice so far. It's this type of responce that I am seeking.

Cyan pepper is great for your metabolism. I have been throwing it on everything.... well everything that wouldn't taste like ass with it.
Omega-3's are great for cardiovascular health. I feel much better since I began taking those.
I drink a good bit of water daily, and try and avoid pop. I also drink quite a bit of milk. Skim milk is nice and all, but most vitamins in milk are fat-soluble, so drinking 1 or 2% is actually better (and it tastes better).
Fruits and veggies HAVE to be included so you get the vitamins and minerals they provide (especially if you aren't taking any multivitamins).
Like everyone said above, protein is good, but too much is really bad for you. Brown piss = bad.
Staying away from anything artificial is great as well.
