  • If it's not a UTI, then what is it

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm curious if anyone else has ever dealt with something like this.
I started to develop UTI like symptoms a little over a week ago. I went to a walk in clinic on Monday and they prescribed me 5 days worth of antibiotics(bactrim). I took all the antibiotics along with plenty of water, and cranberry juice. The symptoms have gotten much better. The urge to pee is less; the frequent urination is less; and the burning when I pee has lessened. I figured that it was almost gone and I just needed a refill on the antibiotics. When I first called up, they refused to authorize a refill claiming that the 5 day prescription should have cleared it up and I need to come back in. Then I told them that I had a pee culture done. They checked up on that and told me that I came back as normal! No UTI! I don't get it! When they originally tested me, there was protein, and blood in my urine. And along with my other symptoms, it sounds as though it's a UTI. Yet it came back negative. I was drinking massive amounts of water, and cranberry juice leading up to my doctor visit. Could that have skewed the pee culture testing? Or is it something else? I asked for a urologist recommendation and she refused and told me to look it up myself. I'll certainly never be going back there, because they are extremely unprofessional, but I'm still worried. What the heck do I have if it's not a UTI. I'm a broke college student with no insurance. I can't afford to get more testing done.
Just a small side note: being a guy, I have a longer urethra than a female, so a UTI should be more difficult to get rid of! I personally don't feel that 5 days was long enough to have me on antibiotics.

Sounds like they prescribed the Z pack, which is a potent antibiotic. 2 the first day, and one each for the next four. Stays in the system a bit, so it may still be doing it's thing.

Did they also screen for STDs, and would there be any chance of that?

A lot of Cranberry Juice can actually cause some blood in the urine. If you are on a high protein diet you can be in a ketogenic state and spill protiens in your urine also. With this I would say go to another doctor. Ask for a blood test not just a urine test. Don't look it up yourself.
ALL THE WAY WITH GOOD OLE JAY!

Thanks! I agree that I need to see another doctor. A family member of mine heard about what was going on with me and actually offered to pay for my visit to a urologist, so I'll be trying to find a good one soon. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. :/
