Hi everyone.
Short version: I believe Kegels caused me chronic pelvic pain syndrome (cpps). This is my attempt to warn people and maybe get some advice on what to do.
Long version: I am a 23 year old guy with a healthy body who rarely viisits hospitals (Maybe twice in the last 4 years). I work out. Have a ripped physique. I have a amazing 6 pack abs and have been successfully maintaining for the last 6 years. I workout atlest 3 times a week and eat healthy. I had an amazing life. Untill now.
I have moved to a new country and started engaging in sex (I know, sad right, a 23 year old virgin. But where I come from this is the norm) I totally enjoyed it. But the first few times I had sex, I burst in like 2 minutes. I was a little worried and did some research and found out that porn is responsible for all sorts of bad things like ED, and PE. Also many people were of the opinion that people who just started having sex face this problem due to over excitement. So I cut porn cold turkey. I used to watch porn and masturbate almost every day before this. Things didn't improve much. So I researched some more and saw a lot of people going crazy over kegels. So I thought I should try them out. I started a basic kegel routine of 2 second holds. I used to do them 5 times for 3 reps. Thrice a day. They were counterproductive. I am now bursting in 30 seconds. I found out about reverse kegels and included them in my routine. Things improved a little. But still under 2 minutes.
About 4 weeks ago, I started noticing a dull ache in my perineum. Kind of like something was pushing it downwards from the inside. This was after a session of intense kegels and reverse kegels. I brushed it off as a minor muscle issue and ignored it. I stopped all my exercises and took a break. A week passed and the pain was constantly increasing. One day, this girl was giving me head and I blew my load as soon as she took my penis inside her mouth. I was twitching uncontrollably, like my whole body was going through a kegel. Cum shot out and my dick was like only 50% hard. At that point I was sure that something is wrong. I immediately knew something was seriously wrong.
I went to a urologist the next day and he was basically laughing when I explained him my situation. He pressed on my perineum and said that it is too tight and I need to relax. He said that kegels are voodoo (Yes, he used that exact word) and to stop doing them. He gave me some alpha blockers and muscle relaxants and sent me on my way. (And charged 500 bucks by the way). I used them for a week and symptoms were a little better. I finished my meds and it was feeling okay. Just some small ache present still but it was barely noticeable. As soon as I finished my meds, my problem became a full blown cpps. I am not able to sit for more than 20 minutes without the pain radiating through my whole area. It radiates to penis, testicles, perineum, butt, everywhere imaginable. It was torturous, staying in constant pain 24/7. I was devastated. After a whole 2 days of research, I came to know about this pelvic pain syndrome and the symptoms look a lot like that. I finished reading the book 'A headache in the pelvis'. It was very helpful in identifying the core problem. After carefully noticing every muscle in that area, I came to the following conclusion.
I have a naturally tight pelvic floor. I always keep my abs flexed even when i am wearing a shirt. Even when I am sitting down. I never relax my abdomen. This is connected to your whole pelvic floor. Imagine years of tension built up in that area. I have also been pretty stressed out the last couple of years. Stress causes involuntary tightening of the pelvic muscles. Even before starting kegel exercises, I used to use my PC muscle when I masturbate. Because it feels very good to clench that muscle. It increases pleasure. And I always use my kegels to shoot my load. All of this has resulted in a chronically tight pelvic floor. And the idiot that I am, I started doing kegels on top of that. This was all too much. It made my tight pelvic floor even worse.
I have read horror stories on the internet with people suffering from this all their life and still not able to find a solution (The internet is a harsh place). I was a wreck. I layed in my couch for 2 whole days watching meaningless TV and netflix, crying frequently. Work suffered. Couldn't explain to my loved ones about my problem. The few friends I confided in couldn't understand what I was going through. I looked absolutely fine on the outside, so it became a little hard for them to empathize with my situation ('But you look fine' was the first response I received from everyone). At one point, I was seriously considering suicide. This lasted for a whole 2 weeks.
After the pity party ended, I decided to do something about it. I don't want to live my life like this. I shook myself up and dusted myself off. Started reading everything available on the internet. Lack of proper research was what landed me here in the first place. I don't wanna do the same mistake again. So I gathered all the information available. I read a couple of books and talked to some pelvic floor therapists.
I started stretching exercises, belly breathing and consciously relaxing my pelvic floor throughout my day. I do stretches thrice a day. I am constantly checking to see if my pelvic floor is tight and try to relax it. I stopped flexing my abs all the time. My abs disappeared.
Fast forward to now, after a couple of weeks into the exercises, my pain reduced greatly. Just a slight disturbance. Erections came back with a vengeance. I never used to be able to get spontaneuos erections. Now, I am getting an erection with the slightest thoughts about sex to the point it feels uncomfortable now. When I masturbated a couple of days ago, I noticed I am not having those involuntary twitches anymore. My pelvic area is relaxed and I seemed to never hit the point of no return. I actually had to kegel consciously to orgasm because I was getting bored after a few minutes of stroking. I think those involuntary kegel spasms were what contributed to my PE. I haven't had sex yet, so I can't comment about this.
So, to conclude, I am far from healed. The pain is still present. But hopefully, I might be able to return to my previous self again. I will continue my regime of stretching and exercising. I am making appointments with a physical therapist soon.
So, to anyone who want to start doing any kind of exercises, please get your information right. Know your own body first. Not everything works for everyone. I still hate myself for fucking up my life like this. Please let me know if anyone has any queries regading cpps/ pelvic floor issues. I am not a doctor, but at this point, after countless days of research, I know more about this problem than my urologist who seemed clueless. (I felt like punching the old bag. He charged me consultation fees for a session which was basically me explaining everything I know about this syndrome and him nodding his head like a moron). I will keep this thread updated in case any one wants to track my progress.
Sorry for the long post. And apologies if I made any mistakes. English is not my first language.
Peace out.
