Independence Day -- the Movie

One of my favorite movies is Independence Day. I love Will Smith, and I especially love Jeff Goldblum -- he's the sexy nerd I've always kind of gone for. :-D

Anyway, I was super-excited when I found out they had a sequel coming out. I (like all movies I'm looking forward to) tried to avoid any spoilers or reviews.

Eagerly, we saw the movie last night... and, I was kind of disappointed.

It wasn't that it was horrible. It was just kind of meh.

Anyone else see it? Was it just me putting too much hope in it?

And, was there any point to the alien Pokemon other than 1. Show humans are trigger happy and 2. Set up for a movie 3?

It hasn't been doing well in a lot of areas, box office, critics, and fans. The lack of Will Smith takes away a lot of the charisma the first had, it was rumored he wasn't in it because he wanted his son in it and no one wanted that.

It is also hard for the movie to really grab you. When the first one came out all they had to do was show the White House blowing up and it immediately got people intrigued as that wasn't something ever shown in movies before, and especially on the scale of the ship just blowing it up with ease.

This one you relate to less with because of the alien technology the humans use and combines it with our own. Because of this not only does it make it harder to tell apart the ships during the massive aerial combat scenes but since it is so futuristic it is harder to relate to this weirder world. While the first one was more grounded in reality the new one truly is sci-fi as we don't even use anything we know of.

For some reason they decided that they needed about twice the characters, having all of the characters from the previous movie while also including the same number of new characters, and they even introduce new characters half way through the movie, which is always terrible.

Honestly, I'm surprised it did about as well as the Warcraft movie, seeing as Warcraft is much more niche than this one.
