All the sudden, after one election, the end of the world is near. Are not all countries responsible for their own future, laws, citizens. I'm really tired of all the negativity, the in fighting, the hate. That's right the hate. Who are the haters now, not the " Dispicables." Hate comes from fear, don't allow fear to rule your rationale.
A prayer, is kinda the same as a "Like". If there are enough likes, God will take notice. So "Like" away please. My daughter needs your prayers. Thank You.

The President-elect made all kinds of statements during the campaign. He either did not know, or did not care, that nations around the world, whether friends of the US or not, are carefully noted and analysed to see their effects on them. For Australians, he has created immense uncertainty - a trade war with China, détente with Russia, escalation of Middle East conflicts, what else? But most seriously, a retreat from measures to combat climate change.

Something like a quarter of all Americans voted for this President, including more of the less educated, more of the older, more men than women, more "Evangelicals" and more whites than any other colour citizens. And he did not even pull in more votes nationally than the lady. Some democracy you are running! Some leadership of the "free" world!

I am not a Trump supporter but I do have a strong belief in the system, and the people, that elected him. Both have served us very well for the past 250 years.
I am cautiously optimistic. I do not think that the end is nigh but I do hope that both of our major parties do some serious soul searching and reconnect with the electorate. This election cycle has been horrific.
However, there is no talk of a "mandate". The Republican majorities in Congress are minimal. Trump was until quite recently a Democrat and many of his positions are closer to those of his former party than to those of his new party. He is unpopular with both parties. He will need to build a coalition to pass anything.
Unfortunately, the current administration set some very scary precedents of Presidential unilateralism. My hope is that Trump will see what Obama, apparently, did not: whatever a President does by executive fiat is unlikely to survive long beyond that President's term in office. In other words, what one President does with a stroke of his pen can, usually, be undone by the stroke of the next President's pen.
Whatever else he might be, Trump is not stupid. Let us hope he is also not unwise.
Further, let us hope that most of his outrageousness on the campaign trail gets left behind on the campaign trail.
          Yarr.

I never gave much credence to campaign rhetoric. I do try to develop a generalized sense of direction from candidates. i'd cross my arthritic fingers more often, but it gets painful.

Wow. I really do not know.
He talks like a protectionist and an isolationist but his current party, traditionally, is neither. He talks about beefing up the military but that might just be talk.
I think his real priorities are domestic: tax reform, immigration reform, economic stimulus.

Georgeoz, the founding fathers had great wisdom in establishing the electoral college.

Something to give some thought to:
There has been a cacophony of blaring and bleating from the media and the Hillary gaggle that she won the popular vote and therefore she should be president, 60,839,497 to 60,265,847. 47.8% to 47,3% with the remaining 4.9% going to the other candidates. But here are the facts:

Trump won the popular vote in 31 states to her 19 and DC. 62% to her 19%. Trump led in the total popular vote for all states except California. Hillary won California 5,860,714 to Trump’s 3,151,821. 61.6% to 33.1% exclusive of the other candidates. Thus California gave Hillary the popular vote for all states as claimed by the Democrats and their media stooges. But deduct her California vote from her national vote leaving her with 54,978,783, and deduct Trump’s California vote from his national total, leaving him with 57,113,976, he wins in a landslide in the other 49 states, 51.3% to her 48.7%. So, in effect, Hillary was elected president of California and Trump was elected president of the rest of the country by a substantial margin.

This exemplifies the wisdom of the Electoral College:To prevent the vote of any one populace state from overriding the vote of the others. Trump’s Campaign Manager, Kellyanne Conway, whose expertise is polling, saw this early on and devised her strategy of“6 pathways to the White House”. This meant ignoring California with its huge Democrat majority and going after the states that would give him the necessary electoral votes to win: FL, NC, MI, PA, OH, and WI. It worked and our country is safe.

Yeah the Aussie founding fathers had a look a the US system when they set up our constitution and decided against it.

As I have noted previously nations are already acting on the greater uncertainty over US Foreign policy . Some countries are moving closer to China , some are looking for new trade partners who knows some might be developing nukes.
The east Europeans are very worried that they face imminent Russian threat .

Any comment re these related threads?

Proof? I would say the MORE Educated people voted. Not the ones that voted for Hillary on the recommendations of the Liberal Media and Liberal Web Sites that the youth of today depend on for their information. Remember Sara Palin said she could see Russia from her Porch! Believed by the less educated from a Saturday Night Live show.

You obviously are ignorant of the reasoning for the Electoral College that the Forefathers of the United States of America intelligently wrote into the U.S. Constitution back in the year 1789. One should educate one's self before writing a response to a subject that they are ill informed.

When you get China, India, Russia to abide for the So Called Climate Change let me know.

Funny that the Climate of the World Changed Drastically in 1883.

On August 11, 1883 the Island of Krakatoa Exploded, the Loudest Explosion ever heard. In fact the Explosion was so loud that it was heard in Australia 3,000 miles from Krakatoa. The amount of dust in the atmosphere also filtered enough sun and heat that global temperatures fell significantly for years.

The Electoral College was relevant in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Perhaps, the relevancy should be looked into as it relates to the 21st century. No harm in revisiting it.

Also it was discovered in 1984 that the ozone layer over Antartica was being depleted due primarily to chloflorocarbons.

So ONLY the Cities with the Highest Populations in the United States dictate the Election of the United States? That's what would happen with out the Electoral College!!!

The Most Liberal Cities are West of Interstate 5 (Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, San Jose and Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego) and The Most Liberal Cities are East of Interstate 95 (New New York, Philadelphia) plus Chicago etc. dictate the Election results for the rest of the United States of America?

It would take an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Ain't going to happen.

Climate Change is Promoted by as many Scientists as Scientist's that consider it Bull Dookey!

I prefer to believe a personal friend who is a Scripps Oceanographic Institute Scientist. His opinion . . . It Bull Crap! Personally I trust his opinion and data he has educated me with! My Humble Opinion of Course!

I didn't advocat the elimination of the Electoral College. Rather, I suggested we look into the relevancy of it as it relates to the 21st century. Perhaps, the voters in the large cities are not receiving proper representation. I don't pretend to be an authority on the voting demographics of the US, but a bi-partisan congressional committee might be able to come up with a satisfactory decision.
