Hello all!
Lucid Dreaming has been always been an interest of mine and how could it not be? Imagine being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want and it felt/tasted/smelled the exact same (if not better) than it does in real life? Sounds like fun doesn't it!
Well that's what sparked my fascination into the world of Lucid Dreaming. The purpose of this thread is to educate others on what Lucid Dreaming is and what can be done with it. as well as keep a progress log of all the dreams - lucid or not - that we have. I will also outline a beginner routine of how to experience this phenomenon as early as 3 days in (talking from my own experience) as opposed to training your brain over months to get a similar but greater effect.
So without further ado lets get started!
WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING?
The term Lucid Dreaming refers to the moment when you consciously realize that you are dreaming. This can be done a number of different ways that I will explain throughout this thread. Once you consciously realize you are dreaming, you can continue down the dream story line that has been created by your subconscious already and see how it pans out, or, you can manipulate the dream to do whatever you can imagine doing. The possibilities are only limited to your imagination! You can even engage in sexual intercourse with whoever you want! So long as you don't get too excited and wake up..
TYPES OF LUCID DREAMING
There are different types of Lucid Dreaming:
Dream Induced Lucid Dream (DILD): Starting in a dream, and becoming lucid while in your dream. This is the most common type of lucid dream. This technique can take some time mastering.
Wake Induced Lucid Dream (WILD): Starting awake and conscious, and initiating a lucid dream without breaking your state of consciousness. This technique requires immersing your body into whats called "sleep paralysis" which for some can be quite a scary phenomenon but don't worry, you do enter sleep paralysis every night naturally, you just aren't conscious when you do.
Finger Induced Lucid Dreaming (FILD): This is the best way for a beginner to start lucid dreaming. I will explain in detail below as well as link a short guide on how to perform this technique. It requires you to wake up in the early hours of the morning and attempt a sort of WILD in a specific way.
OKAY IVE READ ENOUGH HOW DO I DO IT ALREADY?
Because I have personally only had success with the FILD technique of Lucid Dreaming I will elaborate solely on that for now.
THE FILD TECHNIQUE - LUCID DREAMING FOR BEGINNERS
Set your alarm for your deepest sleep, when you are in a REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of the sleep cycle. This is different for everyone but usually occurs between 5-7 hours into sleeping. As soon as your alarm goes off, turn it off, lay flat on your back with your palms on the bed, eyes closed, and with your right hand's index and middle finger alternating, softly push down (there should be no movement just the feeling you are about to push down). Do this for anywhere between 30-60seconds (don't count the seconds just assume how long) and then perform a Reality Check (RC). An RC is something that you do to determine if you are in a dream or not. RC's can be done a number of ways however the most effective one I have found is pinching your nostrils together and seeing if you can breath through your nose. If you can't you aren't in a dream. If you can, CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE DREAMING.
Before I go any further here is a link on how to do the FILD Technique as it is quite tricky to explain over text:

REMEMBERING YOUR DREAMS
Its all good and well that you have Lucid Dreams but if you can't recite them in front of your friends or remember them at all you'll have to be pretty good at doing them frequently. The best way to build your dream recollection is to start a Dream Journal for a number of reasons:
1) A Dream Journal is just a cool book of all your dreams so its already awesome
2) It allows you to recognize patterns in your dreams (characters, certain places etc) that pop up in your dreams but you might never see them in your day to day life. For example after about 20 dreams your might realize one of your old school friends or work colleges occasionally pops up in maybe like in 5 of them so you can consciously tell yourself, next time I see this guy I'm going to do an RC and that could allow you to initiate a DILD!
3) Lastly, it helps you remember and recall your dreams because as soon as you wake up, your memory of a dream starts to fades away as your brain considers it as information thats not needed. To beat this the best thing to do is to write down your dream as soon as you wake up from beginning to end and add as much detail as you can.
I will edit this post from time to time to add more information on Lucid Dreaming but ultimately this is where I will also start my Dream Journal and document all my dreams/lucid dreams moving forward!
Have fun Lucid Dreaming Guys!
