  • New Year's Resolutions: MMXVIII Edition

It's that time of year again. That time when we make plans to do things to better ourselves in the coming year, or forget about them and hope we did them anyways.

How about you folks? Got anything you've been dying to do or thinking you might do?

What I like to do is go through this year's resolutions to see how many I accomplished, if any. So let's see how 2017 turned out. Before I do I must say fuck 2017 in general. This year tried it's best to be the worst.

    2. Get my car. Finally getting close enough to buy it and when I do buy it it will lead into my next resolution....

    3. Get my first real job. I don't care what it is, but I need a non-minimum wage, full time, kind of job. I think for now it is best to try and go to the next step in janitorial/cleaning, as I have a lot of experience in it. Pay for those positions aren't bad when you are cleaning somewhere slightly important. The plan is to save, pay off student loans, and maybe take over the house I live in over the years and own it, maybe go to school and do something else, maybe accounting or something.

    4. Think better. This has to be happen this coming year. Over the last three months my thinking has gotten so bad that.....well let's just say that police have needed to be called and I've been physically beating myself up. I REALLY need to see professional help that isn't pill related. If I don't well, might as well look up a specific knot with a 10 foot rope and see what happens. Come spring, when I can travel, either with car or bicycle, I'll definitely be looking up doctors that can help me.

    5. Have sex, I guess. I've thrown this up for so many years that sooner or later it might happen, but I'm definitely not going to hold my breath. Without a car, job, or living alone chances of that happening are so small I'd have a better chance being struck by lightning while scratching off the jackpot with a lotto ticket.
Hoo boy! I already don't like my chances of coming out ahead here, lol.

    1. Unfortunately I gained weight. Losing the activity my job had with this "extended vacation" my boss put me on really hindered it and I did gain weight, but at the very least I didn't gain all of the weight I lost and with the recent walking I've been doing, thanks to getting a free phone and playing Pokemon Go, I think I've lost a few pounds, but in the end it's still a FAIL

    2.
While I did have the money to get a car I unfortunately didn't get it, and in fact I have most lost all of the money I had for my car, thanks to having to pay rent and buy my own food. Gotta start all over on this one. FAIL

    3. The job search has only gotten one offer, which I hopefully will start soon. I will keep looking. TENTATIVE SUCCESS?

    4. Hahahahahaha. I think we can all agree my own brand of cynical has turned from slightly more amusing to the mild version of "shut the fuck up!", in terms of being tolerated. FAIL.

    5. I don't know why I keep putting this on the list. No sex and with me turning 30 I have officially gained the title of Wizard. Definitely don't foresee sex happening any time soon, or even going on a date. FAIL.

Honestly if my life didn't drastically change, with my step-dad moving out and/or me being put on this "extended vacation" things might have been different, but sometimes life just takes a bat to your knees.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With that I really had to think about what I wanted to accomplish.

    1. Finding and keeping a job. Bonus points if I can find one that is better than I thought I could get. This one shouldn't be too hard, right?
-1a. Maybe get into one of my more expensive hobbies and go to a full blown tournament with hundreds of people. Each time I've tried something has happened to stop it, so it would be neat.
-1b. If 1a doesn't happen maybe a small mini vacation? I've never had one myself and maybe it would be neat to go somewhere for a week(end) or something.

    2. Finding a job for my youngest brother and him keeping it for at least six months. Yes, I know it's not my responsibility to find him one, but he needs one just as much as I do, if not more.

    3. Losing weight. This should be simple if I can get a job that allows me to move around a bit, but if not I might want to invest in a gym membership, or walking/biking (when it gets warmer), and playing Pokemon Go might help too. I'd say getting under 300 would work.
-3a. Bonus points if below 275 and/or able to feel abs, and possibly get a small muscle issue possibly operated on to fix.

    4. Car? Seems likely with a job so I guess why not.
-4a. I really want to see what my brother and my 75% blind friend would do behind the wheel if I got one. Might want to get five-point harnesses for when my blind friend gets behind the wheel though.

    5. Sex? I don't know why I keep putting it here, but like everyone says "It'll happen" so it's bound to eventually, right?
5a. Hell, why not. I'll put a handicap, if I can get a date this year I'll call it a small victory.

I think this year seems far more realistic than usual, well minus the sex one.

Well no matter what I try and think I can't seem to come up with any others so I guess that's it. Anyone else have any resolutions?

I made a New Year's resolution about a dozen years ago: No more New Year's resolutions!
Completely successful. Have not made another one yet.

Bettering myself is a year round endeavor and randomly setting goals on one day never made a big impact, so...

I don't make a New Year's resolution... I make short, mid-range, and long-term goals I keep up with every month.

My long-term resolution for this year is to lose the excess weight and keep it off. I got up to 230lbs again and it's embarrassing, especially as a nutrition major, I really have no excuse seeing as I've lost so much weight in the past and kept it off. This year I'm going to bring my food with me on my all-day trips to the university in another city and use my new gym equipment everyday. I don't care if I'm ripped so long as I'm as strong.

My mid-range resolution is to graduate from the community college and keep my grades up as high as possible. I got three A's last semester belarely trying but also stressing out. I know I can do better and keep my grades up in all my classes while getting plenty of sleep.

My short range goals are to maintain my relationship with N, which is going very well, and save more money. I had a saving account at one point.... I just need to put money back into it every month.

Some great goals, I do hope you can achieve them.
