Burning Down the House

I overslept this morning and missed my class, waking up a few hours later to an incredible urge to pee and the smell of smoke. I didn't think much of it at first... Then I stepped outside to a nightmarish scene from a movie. The apartment across from mine, mirroring it across a swimming pool and tennis court, was on fire. Firemen where everywhere!

I left my place for a few hours, because the smoke was too much for me, went to see my girlfriend for a few hours, and IT'S STILL GOING ON. I just watched as the chimney across from mine collapsed into the roof. Apparently they are doing a controlled burn and spraying just enough water to keep the embers from floating to my side.

As I'm typing this I hear more industrial saws, no doubt cutting through more of the fence surrounding the tennis court or pool gate. This is terrifying! One of just worst anxieties I have is that I have left the stove on and will come back to my place burnt to the ground. Now, I'm terrified that may happen with me in it.

I have some pics and video of the fire I'm going to upload later. I also managed to get a selfie with the reporter here and found the news report page.

Wow, that sucks for those involved and I truly hope no one was hurt. In the next day or so, they will announce the cause of the fire so everyone will be at ease and check certain things in their units to make sure they are safe moving forward. Such a tragedy but a lesson will be gained in the end. Some one, at some time did something they were not supposed to do. Keep us posted, no reason to believe that you are any less safe than your were yesterday.

No one was hurt as far as I am aware of. My neighbor told me someone over there was banging on doors to get people out of their apartments on time.

The cause was supposedly from paint fumes and bad wiring causing a flash fire. So far there have been several reflashes and the fire department has been spraying jets of water for almost ten hours. There's also a crane right across the street ready to tear down the building when the fire is out.

Hopefully your feel safer after this is over and can rest at night not worrying. Paint fumes? sounds fishy at the moment. As a contractor, have done many painting projects, and the fumes were never such that I would ever believe would cause combustion. Either way, glad you are safe and equally glad nobody was hurt.

Yeah I don't believe it either, but then again my side of the apartments caught on fire a few years ago (which is why we have such nice cabinets now )
