Hey PEGym members, I'm trying to get a forum option for saving and financial related threads added to this site under the gym. The only way this can happen is if I get enough members to post about and give advice on topics related to money. So join me here to talk about all things money related such as savings, expenses, debts, liabilities, and investments.

To kick things off answer the following question:

What is your financial goal for this year?

My goal is to cut my expenses and put money back into my savings account, so I stop getting hit with overage fees and can afford to start paying off my debts.

Debt is something that I avoid if at all possible. Obviously when buying a house it is hard to pay cash so it is unavoidable if you want start moving up the ladder.

In about a month I will know what the final damage of my divorce fees will be. I'm thinking it will be in the mid to lower 40,000's. This is the first time in my life I have had to borrow money to pay my personal bills. It is something I have avoided unless absolutely necessary.

So this year is a reset year for me. Time to find a point of reference and start moving forward. My goal is to survive the year in a positive way. I do have a good job lined up through the summer that should boost my income a bit. But if Wildflower and I continue to advance in our relationship. A new house is in our near future. One that will house many a kid.

I am also an advocate of the envelope budget system. This way you pay your bills monthly. When paying with a credit card you are constantly paying bills a month behind and this can trap you if you have a hard month. Yoo can still do the envelope system with a credit card, it just takes a bit of self motivation to move money around as you spend it.

In my opinion people spend as much as they make for the most part.

The big issue in my country is that people rely on Social Security to keep them living well in retirement. Social security was never meant to keep the lights on in your house. It was meant as a supplement to what you have saved over your lifetime.

I'm in the last stage of my 13 month maternity leave so I don't get paid at all for the next 3 months.

So I'm going to have live on my overdraft, savings and credit card until the 1st of May when I go back to work.

This wasn't the plan, I expected G to look after me these last few months but with the split and my pride, I'll have to do it alone.

The rest of year will be paying off the debt and rebuilding up the savings.

I'm almost ashamed to admit my debt because it's not from anything fun. I was hospitalized for 5 days with typhoid fever back in 2010 and racked up... I don't know how much, I stopped looking at my bills once they hit $45,000. Now I owe about $6,000 to whatever collection company took over that debt and my credit score is on the low end of 500.

Are you sure it wasn't meant as fund that politicians could steal from and never pay back?

Tara I know its a problem with Lennon at the moment, but would it not be best to get back to work ASAP, 13 months seems a very long time for maternity leave, getting back to work I would have thought at the moment would be a priority.

Better than getting in debt.

Sickness is not something you go out and get, for most of us there a smack in the face, like this one was, I don't know anyone who just goes out and gets sick for the fun of it, which I think your saying.
