Moving states. Could use some tips on timing.

I plan on moving to Washington State here pretty soon. I've never done anything like this before though. Flights are cheaper when purchased far in advance, but I plan to move around June or July at the latest.

I could request the time off, book a flight, and then come flight time, there are no apartments available. On the other hand, maybe I could find an apartment first and then make travel arrangements, but by the time I can get out there, the apartment could be gone. Just overall at a bit of a loss.

Use AirBnB to get a short term rental. Go n find a place.

OR, lots of Universities and Colleges rent out there dorm rooms over the summer to anyone who wants them. So if you go July you could use the dorms. I did that a few years back. Lived in a two bedroom dorm with a little kitchenette. Had a little fridge n a TV...Was alright for a few weeks.
