  • The "Big" Attraction?

    Hi Gymnasts,

I am curious about this subject.

Bear with me as I tell a story.

My wife love slushie drinks (she is a fiend for Coca-Cola). One time we went to the gas station "Speedway" because she desired a Speedy Freeze drink. I shared with her that I would treat her. Now she is a tiny Asian babe and I'm thinking that she would like the smaller size. Nope. She wanted the 44 oz monster Speedy Freeze drink. I complied and she drunk it (only to regret it later). I knew her stomach wouldn't be able to take all that drink.

This got me thinking...Why are we attracted to big things?

In America, there is the Big Mac...Wendy's has the Triple Cheeseburger...There's the Double Whopper.

Some in America want biggest truck...some women in America want bigger boobs...we here in this site want bigger penises...some men want big muscles...some men want big rump.

    More examples...

    - Dream big (let's go one more...Dream bigger!)
    - Store name: "Big Lots"
    - Wrestlers "Big Show", "Big Cass"
    - Motto from Texas: "Everything is bigger in Texas."
    - Video game company: "Big Fish Game"
    - Video game: "Big Farm"
    - Movies with the title "Big" in them: "Big", "Big Hero 6", "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", "Big Momma's House", "Big Lebowski", etc.
    - TV shows with the

    Are we obsessed with "bigness?"

    Thoughts?

It seems to be hard wired. There is substantial evidence that size plays an important role in judgment processes in both animals andhumans.

For example, studies of animal behavior show that physical size can serve an importantfunction with regard to both mate attraction and threat repulsion.
Size-enhancing strategies have been noted in many species, such as the manes of male baboons and large cats, the ruffling andspreading of tail feathers in birds, the extension of a porcupine’s quills, and the puffing out of the neck inmany bird and reptiles.

If you take it a step further, a lot of research shows that people often use simple judgment rules that rely on simple contextinformation . When given the choice, people tend to prefer objects that are easily "processed".
Marketing people have found that objects thatare more easily processed on the basis of longer exposure times, stronger contrast between the object and the background, and similar rather than dissimilar objects. Consumers also seem to rely heavily on simple contextual cues to make judgments. For example, certain height to widthratios appear to be systematically preferred over others.

It is probably just a basic preference for a more obvious object.

It seems to be part of US culture and is less apparent elsewhere.

Speaking as "Big" Al, size and quantity can confer some advantages. As a child I was thin and shy, and when I took up weight training in my early teens and made notable fast muscular gains it was very interesting to see the difference in how people treated you. I learned quite a bit about human nature during those years.

It's human nature to want to have enough to feel satisfied. Of course, this can and often is abused. The proper term for the desire of excess is greed or gluttony- depending on the nature of the desire.

I agree with Peg I don't think it's probably the same as in the states. For example I've hired cars when in states and they were always referred to a compact cars but in the UK they would be classed as normal family cars.
Women were created from the rib of man to be beside him, not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him, but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him.

We want more because the more we have shows how much better we are than someone else, even if it's something as nonsensical as a big drink, car, or house. Ladies want to have a larger dong on their partner as it shows they can grab the best of the best and men want it because they don't want to feel like less of a man.

It's all about trying to be the best for yourself and others, to attain a level of living that is comfortable and shows you are good at what you do. It's a pride thing and nothing more.

Of course if you don't have those things, or less, you are seen as a failure in every way (I know from experience) and you are less of a person for not being able to compete in the ways that matter (money, possessions, looks, penis size). Unfortunately bigger is better and people want it to show status and show off. It's all about the ability to brag.

When you have less you better be able to cheat and steal your way to the top, be lucky enough for something to allow you the opportunity to gain more, or squeeze as much happiness from your meager existence as you can as you toil away for another's fortune only barely keeping your life together in the hopes that maybe you'll get that one chance, and you're good enough to keep the good luck going.

It's just how the world works. Some are kings most are peasants.
