Thoughts on IPA ales?

Personally, I can not stand IPA's, yet for many they are the latest craze. What gives, I think they taste like dragging your mouth through a day old trash can. Nothing redeeming to say about IPA's.

I pretty much only drink IPAs now. Have been into them for years. First discovered Alexander Keiths (the original, not the mass produced one) back in the early 90s.
Of course strong and bitter beers have been popular in the craft industry in Canada for a very long time. Started drinking St. Ambroise in about 1989...

ZZMan, until a few months ago I would absolutely agree with you. IPA was the final frontier for me. I have always been a heavy stout/lager kind of guy and IPA's tasted like foot juice to me. Well my best friend is a huge IPA fan. His favorite is Hopsicutioner, probably one of the hoppiest IPA's out there. I kept trying them until I acquired a taste. I have to drink them differently than other beer. Just like you drink wine differently or cognac.

Lol think of IPA as the black coffee of the beer world. You have to aquire the taste. Now I love IPA's and having the flexibility to drink at anyone's house regardless of what's in the fridge lol.

Goose Island is a keeper. If you are ever in Quebec, look for St-Ambroise Double IPA

Not sure if the taste is acquired, but IPAs are the only types of beers I care for. Lagunitas, Stone, and new Belgium to name some

Sorry, any thing that you have to sip 3 times before you get adjusted to the taste tells me you only like it when it has killed a couple of taste buds. The wife and I buy a mixed medoly of craft beers each week and sample them together. Anything with an overly hoppy taste gets the thumbs down.

Now, it you want some real beer, sample this one. It will spoil you for life on all other beers out there. I described it to a friend of mine as "this is what I always imagined what beer would taste like when I was too young to drink". Just unbelievable stuff - and not cheap either. Scored a clean 99 pts from the powers that be...

Being British it's funny to hear people talk about IPA as some sort of new fad.

Hi Guys so you don't like IPA's, how sad, being English and been drinking beers from an early age, we are brought up with bitters, but now there are some fantastic beers in the UK that will blow your taste buds away, now for those in NY your find if you google it you can buy Adams Ghost ship its now being made under license in the states, once tried your love it, as it gives a fantastic after taste.

There are a couple from Cornwall as well that really gets the taste buds going from The St Austell's Brewery I used to love Hicks when you could find it straight out of the barrel and not pumped, a beer with great flavor the last I was drinking there was Tribute another beer with a great after taste.
Having just come back from the UK, and been in Adams country, but also had had some Greene and Kings Abbot ale, been drinking this when I lived in Suffolk, it was also a favorite of my fathers, even the Bitter was a great beer to drink, but then its what we was brought up with and these are not iced beers yes we drink them warm or more like room temperature, not really the way Americans drink there beers, but your get there flavours better that way when there not fridged.

Or like me being in Greece I brew my own from kits brought in the UK.
