Funny. I had an old , homeless black guy walk into a discussion like this thread at one of my store years ago. Everything he owned was in his back pack yet he wanted cigs, Camel Non filtered cigs, the most expensive pack in the store. It was his extravaganza. He said one sentence, ‘I never got a job from a poor man.’ Nough said.

BTW. I was rich. Now I’m poor. Don’t really care either. My girlie is alive, worth every penny.

We need to look at it as a marginal tax rate. Everyone’s tax on say up to $50,000 is the same. Between $50k and $100k, the amount over $59k goes to a higher rate. (I’m making these numbers up for illustration purposes). Between $100k and $500k it goes a little higher. Accordingly, everyone is paying the same tax at the increased margin. Once we get to $1 million, no one is penalized too much for having a high income. Those earning over several million dollars don’t feel the pinch of an increased marginal rate as much as those in lower tax brackets. Also, the multi million dollar earners can afford accountants who can find legal tax loop holes so the really rich don’t really have to absorb the full effect of the 70% rate.

That's the system we have until someone comes up with something better. Just to decide that if you make a certain amount that you should be taxed much higher is wrong. Someone go tell Lebron James that he has to give 70% of what he makes to the government and see what happens.

Lebron James and other super athletes are, In my opinion, paid too much for just playing sports. In any case, he now only pays 37% on the earnings in excess of $500,000. I believe he should pay 70% on earnings over $5 million which would not have much of an impact on his life style.

So, explain why you want to punish someone for making more money than you? That is what you propose, not that they don't pay taxes to support the community, but that they should be penilized for making too much money. Everyone shares the burden of taking care of basic governmental functions - police, fire, road maintenance and such. The social net has been extended to food stamps and welfare. Now we support illegals who sneak into this country - where do we stop with the handouts?

As party said, have you ever gotten a job from a homeless man? No, that comes from those who are well off. They are in the business of making money and as such will make adjustments to whatever the government does. Mandate $15/hr wages, fewer employees and less jobs for the unskilled. Tax into oblivion, and prices will go up accordingly to cover said tax. The only one hurt in all this is the little guy as a down stream casualty of the fallout. Stop playing one class against another. It is embarrassing the level of understanding out there.

Left alone, the market will seek its own level, competition will dictate the price of goods and the supply available. Monkey too much with that model and you get results that you hadn't expected.

Don't raise any taxes. Even better implement a flat tax with no deductions. None, not on any category of income. Then give the assistance where the defined need is. Homelessness? Give the home to the homeless. Not to the wealthy who is doing fine. Actually address the defined need. It is hard for me to listen to you guys call us stupid while you stupidly support spending other peoples money on increasing the few super wealthy. You spout the same tired rhetoric even as the system continues to not do what you say will work. Wait I guess that's the definition of insanity, not stupidity. Show anytime in history that giving to the ultra wealthy as you so happily do that they have not hoarded the money out of our economy. It is a flat out lie and perversion to continue. Level the playing field. Make it all equal. It is not illegal aliens taking our food stamps and welfare. Most recipients are white. Most recipients are working. Many are I. The military. Many work for Amazon. Hahahahaba, give to all equally, take from all equally. So simple. So stupid to pretend what we are doing systemically will ever produce a different or better result. Put the money in the hands of the poor. It will end up in the hands of the wealthy anyway. It will just do a tremendous amount of good on its way up. It does no good hiding in their little squirrel holes in the Caymens.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez falsely claims Republicans amended Constitution to kick FDR out of office

"They had to amend the Constitution of the United States to make sure Roosevelt did not get reelected," Ocasio-Cortez said Friday during a night hall event with MSNBC with Chris Hayes.
Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution which passed in 1947.

The text of the amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” FDR died in 1945, meaning he was dead for a full two years before presidential term limits were implemented.

This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has made factually dubious statements. For instance, in December of last year she claimed "Medicare for All" could be funded by $21 trillion in accounting errors by the Pentagon.
