  • Testosterone and behavior

It seems testosterone increases competitive behaviour . For the rest it is very much influenced by social pressure /expectation /reward .

Seems to me a lot of behavior I regard as unethical occurs because it is rewarded .

Testosterone can increase aggressive tendencies, but we can discipline ourselves to route that energy towards productive efforts.

According to the "expert" on the radio aggression is just an aspect of competitive behaviour .
Competitive behaviour is modified depending on social background . So aggression is a typical competitive response in males in western societies . Of course this alters brain pathways and even gene expression so may not be easy to unlearn.
Aggression isn't the only negative behaviour that may occur though .

I think that Roids have a better causal parallel with aggression than Testosterone. Personally, I was much meaner and ruder before TRT than after. I found relief getting my feeling of manhood back. I'm almost never are aggressive since.

There was a time when my wife used to call me "mean". I didn't realize I was that way until she pointed it out. I sought help, found my T levels way low. Started TRT and have been a different man. She has not called me mean at any point in the last 3 years. So I question the premise that T causes aggression, just a personal experience.

What a lot of us guys don't really understand until you have a problem and then start reading about it, just how much our body's rely on testosterone, but yes aggression is a part of high testosterone.

But as ZZ has pointed out even low testosterone for some guys can trigger it, mine went low and has given me all kinds of shit.

Low test can leave you feeling bad which makes you irritable.
People tend to dismiss your issue which doesn't help at all.

Aggression in and of it self is not a negative behavior. It means that you achieve your goals with force or that you are at the ready to confront or attack. It is the way we use our aggression, the way we use force, confront or attack that can be negative. I have been told my whole life that I am highly aggressive, but although I have been forceful in achieving a goal, does not mean I forced someone to comply. I stated my case with conviction and my logic awarded me my victory. Although I have confronted my accusers, I have never threatened any harm to them. Although I will attack and competitor in any sport with using my God given talents, I will not attack my competitor personally or with physical harm. Negative behavior is learned behavior and can be brought on by depression or irritability. If you are aggressive by nature, it tends to not be a good mix.

All that being said; ZZM was at one time being an A** hole to put it bluntly. Not his normal behavior so I brought it to his attention. There were a lot of reasons for his behavior and low T was one of them. Once it was brought to his attention, the negative behavior stopped immediately and then he went to the doctor and found the underlying reasons for his negativity and got the help he needed. High T can have the same affect. I don't believe it causes aggression although it can fuel ones aggressive tendencies negatively.

At what point aggression becomes negative varies from society to society and depends on a range of factors. Hmm Z woman you may not regard your behaviour as negative but there may be a range of views on that or not I don't know your situation.
I remember a friend of mine started doing amway and got pushy . I tried to tell him to tone it down but he just couldn't understand. it was in his nature to be aggressive (pushy) it just had not caused me issues before .

Most, both men and women, find me intimidating (those who don't know me) because they are not used to a strong women with confidence. People that know me consider me honest and a leader. No one would consider me pushy. You can be aggressive in your endeavors without being pushy.

I think unbalanced T levels would lead to emotional instability, mostly when T levels drop. I've done a few roid cycles. Many variables tho i did notice i felt strong and alpha and acted it out when i was in gym all day, fuelled by smashing every rep and staying in that mindset, i guess a rep could turn into someone's face, surely wouldn't be scaded. After the cycles my emotions got hairy. A different type of aggression, more bitchy and irritated.

The thing I noticed most with low test was exhaustion. Anyone who has had vary level of test want to comment on it's effect on behaviour.?

I’ve been on T replacement therapy for over 2 years. One of the things I worried about was becoming angry, aggressive like I was 20 years ago. Not at all. Of course I wish I had regained some of the ambition I’ve lost for financial reasons, but still a low key mellow guy to date now. Ugh. Good and bad I guess.
A prayer, is kinda the same as a "Like". If there are enough likes, God will take notice. So "Like" away please. My daughter needs your prayers. Thank You.
