  • Gay Pride Month

Okay so I'm a bit old and don't understand things the way some of you do so maybe I'll learn something.
So it's gay pride month. What exactly does that mean and why does this issue get a whole month? Why is it one must take pride in your sexual preference? Oh yes I know years, and many years ago, gay people weren't treated all that nicely and even today some ignorant people treat them badly but these same ignorant people treat everybody badly.

Well I'm not gay but if I was it would double my chances of getting a date on a Saturday night but that means nothing. Why are we so concerned with who or what we love or sleep with? For me guys, girls, domestic pets and small farm animals are fair game but I have to be proud of that?

Do I need to march in the street and celebrate what? That I'm gay? Why do I care if you are or not? If you're a good person your fine by me.

It seems childish to see the parades they'll have with people marching in cities to tell me how proud they are to be gay. Why not have a nice person month and some parades for that? Why do we have to be proud for something I see as silly. Okay so you're gay ; want a beer and wings?

Things like this to me and I may be alone here only serve to separate us. Putting people in categories does nothing to foster unity and common interests.

All this crap started with that damn hyphen. I can no longer be an American; I have to be a gay-American or an Italian-American or an African-American. I see no unity there, no cohesiveness just ways to divide. I just don't get it.

Every group that has come to this country has been picked on and discriminated against for a while. People always fear new things. Yes gays were discriminated in the past but that is few and far between now. Yes they are to this day instances of discrimination against gays; there is also discrimination against Jews and Italians and any other group you can come up with but lawyers seem to do pretty well with those cases.

So celebrate whatever you want and take the whole month to do it if you like. I just don't see the reason I or anyone should care who sleeps with who nor do I find it something that brings people together.

    Okay educate me!
The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

It's not Gay Pride anymore Cusp. Its LGBTQ Pride.

I am a senior-American. I will celebrate it for the next 20 years or until I die, whichever comes first.

Ok, I'll give it a go:

You’re right of course, nobody should care.

However, it’s still legal in some states for employers to fire people on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In some states you can be arrested for using the wrong bathroom (which is nightmarish, because I mean really, who hasn't gone in the wrong door in a drunken stupor?). Many have restrictions on access to health-care. Most still have major discriminations in place regarding insurance and medical power of attorney for same sex couples. Many states even have legislation that criminalizes funding for LGBTQ groups.

So the reason for “pride month” is political.

Generally, people do not lose their job for being straight, or get denied an apartment for being straight, or been leered at or attacked by strangers for simply holding hands with their significant others. There is a level of social and systemic privilege not afforded to many members of the LGBTQ community around the world.

It is basically to help demonstrate the continuing need for increasing awareness. Essentially, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. LGBTQ Pride exists for the same reason the NAACP exists, or AFL-CIO or the Irish League (no, not the football association, the group that advocated for Irish Rights in the 1920s) or ACLU or CARIE or EMILY's List, etc, etc.

Wait...you think sleeping with people doesn't bring people together? I'm sure it's one of the best ways to get 2+ people together.

I don't really mind the topic, as I think sexuality isn't a big deal, and don't have much to say as it's a little weird to complain about parades past "parades are god damn boring" and that it is weird to reduce issues a people have to "weren't treated well" as it's a bit disengenuous. I just wanted to make a joke at that odd little bit. I mean come on, sleeping together definitely brings people together.

I'm not expert but I think queer is for queer sexuality or identity

                    Like asexuals etc

It's to include all I think

No, queer and asexual are two different things. Queer people are pretty much gay but not out of the closet, and asexual people just don't have the physical need to have sex with others.

Intersex, they consider themselves to be between two sexes but not trans.

Well I'm an older white Christian male and proud of it. It seems to be now days saying that has become a bad thing. Yes there are some ignorant bad people in this group but there are also some in any other group. Maybe everyone should start working on grouping people into good and bad rather that separating us even more with all of this grouping based on sexual orientation, color, religion, nationality and so on.
To totally satisfy a woman sexually is not about having a large penis, it's about being a good lover.
