Keeping yourself busy with a job and hobbies does work I found. You have less time and energy to be overthinking or psychologically flagellate yourself, which I still do but less than before.
I do have a very low opinion of myself which is based on facts and what or how I could be versus what I actually am, but I keep those negative thoughts for myself there's no reason to intoxicate other people with them and the fact that this is a forum where you can anonymously express yourself is no reason to be crying out loud.
Change what you can change and for the rest all we can do is learn how to live with it.There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

That's the plan and this thread isn't for "crying out". The idea is so that people who are struggling in mental distress can have a place on here where they can go to find out ways to relieve distress. So short-term methods would be a good thing for people to start naming. What works for them when they are depressed or even just sad or anxious?
Keeping mental distress to yourself is just about the worst thing you can do. I did that and after a few years I had a massive mental breakdown and I'm literally only just recovering now, still got a long way to go but this break down was late 2015. So it's taken me 3.5 years to finally get myself to a place where I can fight. All because I buried everything for years and years.
TV helps me with depression but worsens anxiety and is a bad addiction. I enjoy building things mostly, helps with depression and anxiety.

I wasn't saying that you were crying, but I see a lot of people on the forum going on rants or simply whining about themselves.
I always kept mental distress for myself or on some rare occasions spoke about it very very vaguely to parents. It's true that its not necessarily good. I'm miserable, but thats the way things are, no one can do anything about it except myself so I don't see any reason to talk about it to anyone. I won't feel relieved, only more vulnerable and I will never break my guard again to anyone unless maybe for my kids if I have any, in the future. There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

Some people need to go on a rant to blow off steam and being able to do it online or in a "safe" thread like this means they don't have to bother their loved ones with it or worry about rejection and being vulnerable.Start: BPEL - 7.008", MEG - 5.197"

I hope this isn't being too intrusive, but you really shouldn't burden kids with your emotional baggage. As a parent, your job is to support them emotionally, not the other way around.Originally posted by MasterSchlort View PostI wasn't saying that you were crying, but I see a lot of people on the forum going on rants or simply whining about themselves.

What? How would it a burden to break my guard to my future kids or to anyone else? Do you know what that expression means?Originally posted by Zyxciz View PostI hope this isn't being too intrusive, but you really shouldn't burden kids with your emotional baggage. Breaking your guard to your children and loved ones sounds like being human to meOriginally posted by Zyxciz View PostI hope this isn't being too intrusive, but you really shouldn't burden kids with your emotional baggage. I suppose it means showing vulnerability, but I may stand corrected. Mostly I speak from my experience with my mother, she would always go on about how her career dreams got crushed once she became a stay at home mom. It really burdened me as a kid, I felt guilty and I felt pressured to live my life for the sake of my mother. Children should be given the space to develop their own identities without intrusion from parents. Even too much praise can be detrimental to a child's development.Originally posted by MasterSchlort View PostWhat? How would it a burden to break my guard to my future kids or to anyone else? I agree to be honest. You tell your problems and issues to your wife but remain strong to the kids so they can grow up to be strong otherwise you may inadvertently cause them to have emotional issues (what others see as weakness). It doesn't mean neglect them that's worse, be there for them but don't show that you are affected by emotions (be their hero). There was a lot of emotion (stress, sadness, loneliness) in my household and I grew up with an emotional disorder, take care what you say.Start: BPEL - 7.008", MEG - 5.197"
