  • The Mosque

Okay it's way to quiet on the boards today so let's stir something up. Should the mosque be built 2 blocks from the site of the World Trade centers? Why or why not ?
The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

Short answer, no. Why not? Symbolism, what is represents in the minds of American people, whatever you want to call it. If something like what happened to the Towers were to happen overseas and Americans wanted to build something centered and solely based on Christian or Judiastic views at or near the spot in question, people there would have a problem with it too I believe.

      Why not?
If there IRA was responsible for this attack would there be argument to a church being built near there?

Places of worship of any religion belong anywhere in this country. Freedom to practice whatever religion you choose. People will protest it, I'm sure... and that's fine. Just put the fucker up and let people worship. If they paid for the area, they can put whatever they want there.

Islam is not a religion, but rather a political movement. Its history is written in the blood of those that would not convert to the ravings of a madman.

So I would say they can build their Mosque when there is Christian Church or Jewish Synagogue in Mecca. Seems fair to me.

We do have Muslims in this country who are legal citizens. Sure, an area further from there would be better, but you have this freedom to practice any religion you want wherever you want (minus ancient religions that require sacrifices...). They have every right to put up that Mosque if they want to.
It's not like I don't care about what happened on 9/11 either... I have a cousin that worked there and died that day.

Go watch Kindgom of Heaven - good movie and pretty historically accurate (except for some of the Hollywood-style requisite drama). Not sure of there are any movies out there (good, historically based movies) on the Islamic Crusades.

Lots of parallels in each. Religion, whether socially, politically or spiritually derived, are very similar at their cores. You can look at the history of religion in this country (America) and look at hos it has shaped, and continues to shape the country.

I too had family members that were there and I'll never see again ...

So here's a question (and I'm a big "rights" guy): when does the rights of an individual conflict and cause harm to the rights of a larger group of people? Which side should be taken? There is not right or wrong answer - just more questions ...

I think the American people hold a certain degree of reverence for the place where all the innocent people died... Why violate that.

Yes people have the right to build mosques and worship as they wish, but right now I think it's wrong for them to step on so many toes. It shows a lack of sensitivity for all the death that recently happened.

You mentioned "or all the death that recently happened." Is this in reference to the war and the death from the war? Or from the Towers? Because for many people, what happened nearly NINE YEARS AGO still seems like it happened last month ....

If you would really like to know something chilling about the "intentions" of these people making this mosque, you should research what they want to NAME it; CORDOBA.

That is a direct reference to a Moorish victory in Spain when the Moors took over the economic/financial center of Spain and most of Europe at that time- CORDOBA (also spelled Cordova; in Spanish "b" and "v" are phonetically/phonologically the same symbol)

Its a slap in the face.

The main question is: Why THERE? Move a few hundred feet and no one will give 2 shits. Move it. DUH!?!??!?

                          Not a good idea:

                          1) 51 Park Row, as it is now referred to by its supporters, was actually hit and severly damaged by the remains of one of the World Trade Center planes so it is part of Ground Zero. Accordingly, a Muslum Mosque built on Ground Zero is an affront to the Ground Zero families, as well as many other patrioitic Americans.

                          2) I have heard reported (not confirmed) that it is a Muslim belief, that a Mosque should be built on conquored land.

                          3) The Imam/Mosque leader purchased the building for $5 million in 1998 at the bottom of the real estate market. It had prevously been estimated at $20 million. It is rumered that the Imam is holding out for a deal to sell the building for $20 million or trade the building for another worth $20 million just to induce him to move the Mosque further away from Ground Zero.

                          3) The Imam claims to be a "bridge builder," but was quoted as prevously saying that America has more innocent blood on its hands than Alquida. Not very concilitory.

This is the way that Islam is saying "Up yours America" by scheduling the opening of the Mosque on.......9/11/2011. (jP

Ok my turn! No the mosque shouldn't be built. A man who was making an abortion clinic got a good deal on a building for his clinic. It seems though that it was right across the street from a Catholic church. You know how those Catholics are about abortion. Needless to say the people of that church were quite angry. Now the man did have the right to build it there; he got a good deal and he wasn't trying to be offensive in anyway yet the people were angry.Being good Catholics they protested, held rallies, and prayed alot but it was to no avail. The clinic was built. The good people of the church saw that clinic everytime they left the church;some even tried not to look at it. But there were those people out there om the fringe, you know the crazies, the fanactics. Everytime they went to their church they got angier and angier. The rage built up.One day a Molotov cocktail smashed through the window of the clinic and innocent people were hurt. Who's fault? Of course it was the fault of the crazies, the fanactics. When asked about the responsibility for the injuries the owner of the clinic steadfastly professed his innocence. He was asked about the wisdom on making an abortion clinic right across the street from a church. He said he was in his rights to build it there and he wasn't going to bow down and change his clinic because there are "crazy fanactical people out there". Still there were innocent people hurt, some severely. He's right, we shouldn't have to change our lifestyle or they way we want to live our life because of the "crazies" out there should we. We don't do that because we're Americans and we don't take shit from nobody! Right? Well, maybe some change is prudent because of the crazies out there;maybe we have to change a bit. We've seemed to have changed the way we fly because of the crazies haven't we? Basically you got to get naked to go on a plane. The list goes on an on. The man who ran the clinic must bear some responsibility for the innocent injured; it would have prudent to not put it across form the church although he had every right to and innocent people would not have been hurt! This mosque will attract the crazies, the fanactics, just like the towers, an innocent people will again be hurt. That I will have no forgiveness for! That is my right!
