  • Insomnia

Well, its 1:30 in the morning and here I am. Fell asleep on the couch watching Football and now I pay the price. When will the cycle ever end?

Melatonin taken, will be about an hour before it hits and god forbid I try to wake up in the morning after this....I'm like a zombie after melatonin the next morning.

My wife does that. Falls asleep mid evening, wakes up at midnight, then can't sleep again.

    Sex usually helps.

ZZ, what I found is keeping a regular schedule, with or without the Melatonin is helpful.
What that translates into, is the same regular physical daily activity, approximate food and liquid quantity consumption, regular bowel habits, i.e. keeping the components of your life fairly regular, best as you can. Sure, there will be exceptions, and that is expected.

I find it worth the effort and if it is the case, the trouble.

Sometimes (more often than I like) I just doze off around 8:30 pm for 45 minutes while watching tv. I than invariable wake up around 1 am and have trouble getting back to sleep. I often take a Tylenol PM and an hour later I am back to sleep, but the loss of 1.5 to 2 hours of sleep starts the cycle all over again the next day.

I sometimes can't fall asleep with no reason. I never doze during the day, however, sometimes I just can't sleep at night. I even used to take sleeping pills but the next day I struggle with a hangover. The online pharmacy website states that it's a typical side effect of those meds but this causes me another discomfort which I don't like. The idea of the set schedule is indeed reasonable.

When you sleep your brain gets a chance to replenish a very important nuerotransmitter called acetylcholine. What you find when you take an over the counter PM drug is that there is some form of benadryl in it which is an anti cholenergic drug. Yes it makes you sleepy but at the same time stops the brain from making what it needs therefore the morning hangover and the all day fog.

This is exactly. Also found interesting information about a circadian rhythm disorder on the < url removed >site. It might be a possible reason of my insomnia as well.

I still sleep like Sh!t. Maybe it is the alcohol consumption, but at times, when I'm asleep, I wake with anxiety during the night. For no reason other than I start thinking about stuff. Difficult to distract myself and fall back to sleep. My heartbeat keeps me awake.

I too sleep like Poo Poo. I took sleep classes from a Hospital. It was a 6 session class and very informative.
One thing I learned is Drinking will get you to sleep but once your body has processed the Alcohol/Sugars your body will wake up.
Plus due to the alcohol and processing, you don't sleep as well.

I was taking L-Tryptophan as an NO booster when dealing with ED. It didn't do anything noticeable for that, but a welcome side effect is that I went to sleep easily and slept like the proverbial rock, often all the way through instead of the usual three or four bathroom trips every night. And I woke refreshed in the morning instead of the usual half-zombified stupor.

It turns out "good sleep" is a noted side effect of L-Tryptophan... but it works way better than any of the sleeping pills I've had.

It's not prescription, but it's not something I found for sale locally. I bought mine off Amazon.

Everything has some form of risk. Even reading the fine print on the little information pages that come with prescription drugs can be alarming.

The OP said he's taking melatonin; the webMD page for that is even more alarming than for L-Tryptophan. Well, pretty much all the warnings for anything are alarming; they default to crying "wolf!" for everything.

Well, did it again, fell asleep just before dinner. I made dinner and fed my wife. She eats earlier than me so I usually wait until around 8 pm to eat. Sure enough, fell asleep and woke up at 9pm. Not a huge nap, but it means I'm up most of the night now because of it. Its like I get what needs to be done with feeding the family by making dinner and once my responsibilities in that area are complete, I shut down and fall asleep at my desk. Strange, but it happens regularly.

You must find something to occupy yourself during that down time.

Well, fuck if I didn't fall asleep at my desk, yet again and here i find myself wide awake at 11 pm pissing around on the forums. A vicious cycle of wake and sleep that in the end is not healthy. I'm hoping that starting my business up again will break this but holy Christ, every night the same thing? Today (Saturday) I took an hour long afternoon nap, obviously it didn't help the situation.
