So my GF and I had a conversation about music. Turns out we fundamentally disagree on musical selections. For me, Lyrics are only important to me when they mean something. Otherwise, I prefer instrumentals and wordless music (smooth jazz, classical, etc.)
For me, my gospel rap music is the only music I really like hearing with lyrics good one here. Keeps me grounded, Other than that, I love "hip hop instrumentals" for energy (Dream Traveler and The Take Over ), Classical for inspirational, and Smooth Jazz or New Age/chill House for relaxation.
For her it's all about the lyrics. Honestly I just like music that is nice to my ears as a composition (unless the lyrics are about stupid stuff... then it's just not appealing as a composition).
Comes down to me being more "Visual/Visceral" I basically likened it to a painting being painted in real time, you watch an artist create the scene for you and then they start adding details until it becomes a recognizable painting. Then as it goes, you just enjoy the composition and notice the nuances in the sounds, the changes, and the push and pull of the sounds. She likes a song with meaning meanings...
Makes an interesting discussion, what in music makes you appreciate it... these selections are all over the place, and I can't really formulate an understanding of anyone LOL!
