  • Occupy Wall Street

Well this ought to get a few laughs or maybe a bit of swearing but what the hell; I am currently bored.

So what the hell are these folks doing down there? What's the point? Some of them feel that some of those Wall Street guys should be put in jail? Okay put them in jail but for what? What law or laws have they broken? New Yorks' attorney generals ( you guys do remember Elliot Spitzer and Andy Coumo) love nothing better than to get a name and political influence by putting those guys in jail when they do a no-no. The problem is that those guys running Wall Street haven't seem to have broken any laws. Greed, as much as we may not like it, is not a crime. Morally it's not good but it isn't against any law that I know of. So what are these folks doing down there?

Oh they want to redistribute the wealth. I saw one of the protesters on tv and he was complaining to a reporter about the lack of police protection. It seems he left his laptop laying around and went to some kind of meeting. It seems his laptop wasn't around when he got back. The reporter merely suggested that his laptop had been " redistibuted". Well they had to cut off the rest on the interview and you know why!

In some of the other cities in seems some of these guys decided to smash a few windows, throw rocks at police, and set fire to a few things they don't own. I don't know about what laws the Wall Street guys broke but what they did did break laws. When does two wrongs make it right?

The thing that I guess bothers me the most is the handouts these folks have gotten. It has been estimated that the ones in NYC have gotten over $500,000.00 in donations of money, food, clothes, and medicine. Wouldn't it just make more sense that instead of donating to these folks that can afford laptops that the money and goods that were donated should have instead been donated to poor people that could really use it?

The laws here in aussie exerted more control , so the gfc had less effect here.

Laws should change to reflect the will and morality of the people as well as new types of activity that has negative effects on others. So anal sex was illegal in my state years ago, now it is not. New forms of cyber crime require new laws.

Destroying the world economy for your own gain, causing untold suffering, may not be a crime but it should be. Perhaps it will be? If so I hope they make it retrospective.

If politicians had the guts to do what is right the world would be a different place. It is sad that they do not and may never.

One if their main gripes is about crony- capitalism although some are just against capitalism period and quite a few dont know what their really mad at. As for crony-capitalism im with them on that. Where they should be protesting is in DC. Thats were the SOB's are that handed out our tax dollars to their political friends. They pick the winners an losers , go after there political foes via the DOJ (Gibson guitar), accept lobbying money (bribes) but wall street or the 1% is the convenient boogey man.

Both sides are bastards (wall st & gov.) but their bastards because they are in collussion with each other. Thats the way the world go's round, you scratch my back I will scratch yours. Its all theatre and the useful idiots are their puppets. Obama voices his support for the occupiers and his disdain for wall street yet he received more political contributions from wall street than any other candidate in history. We dont have capitalism we have crony capitalism and they seek a solution from the very people that fucked it up in the first place. Insanity.

Think about it for a minute. If you were a professional athlete, and you were so damned good that you brought in the crowds to watch you perform. Your team became a title contender, and your team was televised each week worldwide. Because of you and your efforts, your team sold billions of dollars of clothing and other memorabilia. The owner of your team is making a mint because of your efforts. Wouldn't you want a piece of it? The owners will gladly fatten up your contract to keep you around.

Now take Wall Street. There are amazing stock/commodity/currency traders that make their companies millions, or billions, of dollars a year. There is the stigma that they all are crooks, but I believe it is false. They are simply much smarter than you or I. Goldman-Sachs or whoever will bonus the employees heavily that make the company the most money. The U.S. is a capitalistic society, not socialistic, the last I heard.

Why do they pick on Wall Street? What about Hollywood? Maybe George Clooney needs to spread his wealth. Let's picket Peyton Manning's house and his $23 million dollar contract? He has more than enough to live on, and his excess can feed the poor.

The socialist economic model has failed time and time again. I understand the pitfalls of capitalism as well, but it is a better alternative than forcing the successful to share their wealth.

No let's not pick on the sports stars. Hey afterall they're stars. A-Rod makes a ton of money. Does he really employ anyone other that maybe a couple gardiners and some housekeepers? No not really but he puts butts in the seats at Yankee stadium which employ hot dog vendors and the like. Let's just forget the fact that people will come to see the Yankees whether A-Rod is there or not. Now these Wall street guys do seem to employ lots of people to help them do their dirty deed; ie make money. Not only do they make money for themselves but everyone that has an IRA, 401, every major union that has a pension fund, well they make money for us as well. Yup, I think they should be hung!

Agree with you. It's not because we have a true "Capitalist" system it is quite the opposite. We have a system were corporations are backed up by government and vice versa. I can swear there is a name for that type of system??? Oh yeah fascism. But not just a true fascist system either. We have an amalgamation of various systems (I.E Socialist, Communist, etc) But what I think we have to understand or try to understand is that albeit most of the OWS ppl are genuine they are being let astray. Remember their motto is "Order out of chaos" and their modus operandi is "Problem- Reaction-Solution".

Working for the judicial system as I do, I will be the first to admit that our system sucks and isn't fair. BUT, being what it is, it's one of the best systems in the world.

These people need to get lives, get jobs and quit begging for fucking handouts! They're the type that feel life owes them shit and guess what? LIFE doesn't owe anyone anything. You want it? Go out and get it!

I saw an interview with a guy there holding out a sign which said, "throw me a bone, pay my tuition". When asked why someone should pay his tuition he replied, "because it's my first ammendment to ask." The reporter summarized it this way, "someone should give you money to pay your tuition BECAUSE!?!"

Look at the pathetic list of 99%'er statements:

"I'm $50K in debt and will be graduating with a degree for which there isn't a job market for my degree"

What kind of genious "invests" $50K in something which has 0% return (like a BA in ancient egyptian hyroglyphics). Probably should have paid more attention in economics 101 before settling on that major.

Or this one: "my parents are $90K in debt to pay my tuition and I can't get a job with my major"

This guy, appearing to be so concerned with his parents' welfare isn't at all bothered to have pissed away $90K of their money. Couldn't be bothered to learn something which someone else will value but we should feel sorry for his parents. I'm sorry they didn't have better sense than to continue to feed this leach to society.

I have zero sympathy for this crap. I delayed school so I could earn enough money to pay for it, I worked two part-time jobs during school to continue to pay, and I did 40hrs/week of homework on top of my jobs to earn scholarships to reduce my costs. I can't completely express my feelings about these folks without getting violent.

There is no way they're going to change anything. If left alone long enough they'll get tired of being ripped off by each other and move back in to their parents' basement where they can continue to be supported by people who expect nothing from them.

I want to install a phone line at your house with a red phone. Call me whenever you get bored lol
Do you post this stuff anywhere else like on Facebook or email blast your friends? Haha

If I was a super duper wallstreet contender being recruited out of grad school by all the big firms you'd bet your ass I'm going to the firm with the biggest $$$$$ and potential to move up the ladder. These money men and women are lifers. They will do this for the end game. The win.

If you work with billions of dollars you must pay them well to keep them from being stolen by another firm or worse selling secrets.

Look how long some of the CEO's had been in place or at the firm. Decades. It's their last stop in the business world. Their career.

It's not a charity. It's not illegal to think, examine, hedge and risk. All for the win.

Morally they took billions of dollars from foreign countries mostly using the guidelines from those countries to invest. Should they have said "yo china, this is cool and all but Americans uh, they will eat this up. They go for anything that is available by law. Even if they can't pay it"
Yea they should have morally but didn't because legally they couldn't. They could be arrested for road blocking a country or institution from investing.

                            Tangled freaking web.

I never like to hear change the law to suit current society because in our society we can't control ourselves. We do what we are told or allowed to do.

I think the laws need to be "corrected and matched up" so they work in harmony. Close the loop holes.

There are those who are trained to work backwards. (me)
Find the holes, and fill them. Some fill them morally good. Some morally wrong.

Not saying I like it. Not saying I don't. But we the people need to borrow our ancestors strap on's and stop the spending. The waste.

One neighborhood, one family, one person at a time.

Shit, did I just rant? Maybe I should repost in the rant thread

                            Good, bad and ugly.

                            I agree with mrbigdick btw.

To start with, most of these butt plugs have iphones and ipads...so...Oh! that's ok...so what they want is having a Steve Job as a slave. Somebody that develop their toys, but then the government should confiscate those toys and give it to them for free. So humans like Steve Jobs are not allowed to make money. Actually nobody is under their criteria.

Most of them don't have a clue why they are there. I guess to get free food. That's not how life works, and certainly not how this country was founded. If George Washington could come back to life, he would get a heart attack from the atrocities we have in this nation starting by the government. I agree with them when it comes to tax payer money and Washington, because politicians are one of the most dangerous gangs in the world together with the IRS. But when it comes to private companies and corporations, the market regulate itself. If you don't like a corporation that is too big, simply don't buy their products. Simple. That's the way. Throwing stones and hunger strikes like they do in the third world doesn't take us anywhere.

And all of this pretty much tells everybody that the only thing we need to get rid of, is big government. Get Washington and the government out of our fucking life. Lower taxes. let the American people invent, innovate, plan, reorganize. With less government this country would thrive like it did before....a long time ago...
