  • Positive Thoughts

So, I have this note on my iPhone where I write down all the positive thoughts I have, or quotes that I see that inspire positivity. Every once in a while I'll add to it.

Just wanted to share them here. If you have some of your own, feel free to share as well. I'm just going to put all of them here, not editing any of them out.

Enjoy! The ones without quotes are my own.

    ---------------------------------------

If you fall in love with the world, the world falls in love with you.

    No drama, just love.

    Prove yourself, by being yourself.

"Understand that everyone you meet is just trying to fit in. Help them feel at ease." - Linda Krantz

"Sometimes the wrong choices bring us to the right places."

"If you are not willing to look stupid, nothing great is ever going to happen to you."

"... if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein

Be open to becoming what the universe wants you to be, because what the universe wants you to be is much more than what you could possibly want for yourself.

Your thoughts become reality. Control your thoughts and you control your life.

Most hate losing and being outperformed in the beginning, but you will like the result of bigger challenge than can increase your overall development as an athlete. Seek training partners that are more skilled than you, Seek someone that is more educated than you, Surround yourself around those that are better that your current ability. Be the small fish in the small pond!

The way you hold yourself is a direct reflection of how you think about yourself. People pick up on your inner talk by the way you express yourself. Keep telling yourself that you're awesome, and eventually other people will start to believe it.

I want to be someone other people look up to. I want to have that charisma, that intelligence, that knowledge and charm that attracts people to him. It's a lot and I'm aware of this ... but why can't I have it? I'm ambitious and smart enough.

Change isn't a bad thing. Everything changes and nothing lasts forever. Even mountains weather away over time. Accept that change and become a part of it.

Failure is an opportunity to learn. Don't feel bad about yourself because you botched something (a date, a test, some project for work). Instead, take it as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes. That way, you are being successful even in the light of failure.

My belly dance instructor loves me! <3

She's already engaged, but she sends me messages about how much she appreciates me. Totally platonic. I've been trying to work on telling people the good things I think about them, and it has really turned my life around. I found that if I send her really positive messages about the importance of her role in my life, it encourages her to do the same. I feel really close to her. She told me that I'm a really great guy, and yesterday she asked what kind of girl I find attractive. I think she's gonna go looking for some nice girls for me.

You know, I've never really been one to give compliments b/c I don't really feel that need for validation myself so I've never really given much to others, but I think I'm going to start based on this thread and others.

Here's a couple quotes I like, most are based on getting out of your shell and being bold b/c I've always been a bit timid around women and just in general:

I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened - Mark Twain

If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid - Epictetus

The implications of social polarity are extremely liberating. Knowing that, no matter what, I’m guaranteed to be liked by some and disliked by others has freed me up to be totally authentic. This has resulted in a tectonic shift in how I relate to others. Instead of trying to “get a good reaction”, I’m concerned only with radiating my personality and focusing my attention on only those who are a strong vibrational match. -I think this was said by the guy with the social skydiving blog

Beyond just approaching them, you shouldn’t actually “try” to get women to like you at all. The most important thing is to express yourself as authentically as possible and leave the rest to polarity to determine if she’s a good fit for you.

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon-instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today. – Dale Carnegie

the best way to screw up any social adventure is to go out with the intent of meeting women.
              Starting as of 2/1/11: 6.4 BPEL x 4.8 MSEG (5.6 NBPEL)
Just hoping to put together one full month of actually sticking to a routine and go from there.
My goals mainly revolve around developing high EQ erections that last during sex.

Being positive is hard to do. A lot of people around you are negative, and one of the social 'glues' we have is complaining about the crappy position we're in. Positivity is not merely the absence of bitching, but I think is actively seeking out the good in the things around you. It's also about turning a bad situation good, like making a joke about something that's crappy for example.
"In capitalist America, bank robs you!"

I don't think it's about blind optimism. I don't think that saying "oh well, things will get better eventually" is positivity. I think that is passive behaviour and doesn't lead to anything constructive.

                  Dealing with Negativity

Hey, that's a good point, Toadstool. I think being positive is definitely different than being ignorant or "turning a blind eye". It's about changing the way you think about the very same things that happen to you, which is much more than just pretending it didn't happen.

For example, I'm starting to encounter some negativity towards my belly dancing. One guy at a dance yesterday said under his breath (when I was doing some really close belly dancing with one of the hottest girls there, who is also a friend of mine), "Belly dancing showoff." I was at first hurt by it, then in examining why I was hurt by it, I felt that there was no need to be, and that I needed to change the way I thought in order to avoid being hurt by these things in the future. Here are possible ways to think about it:

                  1. He was just joking around, and was actually admiring my dancing, and maybe the fact that I had a really hot partner.
                  2. His negativity is a reflection of his own frustration in his own life. I know for a fact that he just broke up with his girlfriend. They were together for just a few months, but he may be bitter about it.
                  3. He's actually very jealous that I have something that makes me unique and draws attention to me. And I'm comfortable and confident with that attention.

It will take time to change my thinking, and the more often I encounter situations like this, the more practice I will get in turning something that initially made me feel hurt, into not only not being hurt, but also trying to understand the true source of the negativity; to understand that, many times it has nothing to do with me, and has everything to do with them.

Any thoughts on this? How do you, as a positive thinker, deal with negativity, sarcasm, and basically miserable people?
                  Starting (3/14/2011) = 5" x 4"
                  Current (7/16/2013) = 5.75" x 4.125"

                  Short-Term Goal = BPEL 6"
                  Long-Term Goal = 7.5" x 5.5"

I think you're bang on the money, Qarzan.

Most of the time negative people are at work and they're complaining about their own situation. I'll listen to them and try to change the subject to something we can all enjoy and something that takes their mind off how much they dislike their job. I might bring up a comedian I saw, or tell a joke I heard. Talk about school and future plans, goals, hopes, dreams. Talking about animals is usually something that brings a positive reaction. Just anything that isn't focused on what we all dislike, but rather something we can all like.
I find that people love to hear their own voice. If I can find something that can spark them to rant about how much they love their new TV, or some show they saw, then I feel i did my part

When sarcasm or negativity is directed at me, I find it doubly hard to stay positive. I was born with a rebellious, bad attitude and it comes out when I'm not paying attention, or when I'm being provoked. When someone makes a comment towards me, it's very hard not to respond with more negativity.
I try to set myself apart from others. I try remember that I want to be a leader and someone worth being looked up to. I try to imagine talking to a child and what I would expect them to do, or recounting the story to others. What would make me sound like the awesome hero here?

I'll admit, I don't always act in the ideal way. Sometimes I come across as more confrontational and aggressive than I really wanted. Sometimes I'm the one who's unhappy and verbalizing it in a non-constructive way.

                    I'm not perfect,
                    but I'm trying

Ok so I went dancing last night, that same guy seemed pretty nice and friendly. I guess what was going on was option #1:

"1. He was just joking around, and was actually admiring my dancing, and maybe the fact that I had a really hot partner. "

It reaffirmed my faith that people are generally good.

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will

The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have

I write journals every once in a while to clarify my thoughts and get them down on paper. It helps me to really identify and express what I'm feeling, and then puts it in a concrete form for me to refer back to later. Here is one that I wrote this morning:

                              ----------------------------------------------

I feel like a pressure cooker. I can’t just let my feelings of love and happiness spill out, that would be too much for people to take, so I’m constantly on the lookout for when & where to express my gratitude, letting out just enough so that I don’t explode with joy.

I am one of the sources of love and happiness. There are other sources as well, and it’s my job to seek out and identify those sources. Stay around these people, let us feed into each other. Then, when we are full, release it into the world where we see fit.

We need to show people the courage to be a beacon of light in a dark, empty world. Shine, so that people can be filled with hope, and they can find direction and meaning in their lives. Let loose with positivity; people want to be loved and appreciated; show them. React immediately when you feel their need.

Giving love should be selfless, with no expectation of getting love in return. The payment comes from knowing that you may have helped clarify themselves for them.
