Just wanted to rant a little. (pulls out soapbox)

I'm so freaking depressed as of late. I got tons of things to be thankful for. Great Girl. Awesome 9 yr old son. Great family. Own a house. Two old trucks paid for. etc...

But I have been self employed for the past 10+ years. I use to make some good money in the landscape industry. For the past 3 years life has just been a huge struggle. I have been having a hard time selling work and making any money. I can barley keep up with the bills. In fact I'm 2 months behind on the mortgage right now! I just cant get ahead. Its so stressful and depressing.

I have tried to get a 9-5 job that will pay a decent salary with benefits. I have a BS college degree. I have applied everywhere. I never even get called in for an interview. I cant make bills with a $12 an hour job.

I have even went as far as writing an ebook and selling it online to selling stuff on ebay. It helps make some money, but its not adding up.

Its not like I live a lavish life. Shoot, some would even say I was poor. My house is just a 100K fixer-upper I have not had a real vacation in years. I use to race cars but sold all that. Damnit!

I have borrowed money from parents that I still need to pay back. Luckily I have great family to help me out, but they cant carry me.

ITS SO HARD BEING A DAD. HAVING TO BEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROVIDING FOR YOUR FAMILY.
I have a live-in girlfriend that just got her teaching degree but will not have a job for at least 6 months. So she can't help with bills.

Anyways.....I know I'm not alone in this. There has to be others on here in my position. I know I should just be thankful for what I have. Some people would give up everything to have what I have. I thank God for those blessings. I just ask God for help with being a good provider.

Anyone have any good business suggestions?

Im sorry to hear what you are going through. Its nice to lay it out there though isn't it. I dont know how to link but I did a post reply about just about the same issue someone else was having. If you are late on the mortgage, especially if you are self employed, you need to request your mortgage modification right away. Many times they will give you a forebearance (no payment at all) for six months or so to give you the time you need to get trained for alternative employment and seek employment while your current self employment job goes on the back burner.
If you want additional information let me know and I will try to hunt down all the links I gave and get it to you here or in PM

Its scary for sure. I am in a single mother and even when married I was the provider financially. The good news is as a business owner you actually have a lot of experience in more things than you realize.

Good luck to you and your family

      When I am worried
      And I can't sleep
      I count my blessings
      Instead of sheep
And then I go to sleep
      Counting my blessings

      When my bankroll
      Is getting small
      I think of when
      I had none at all
And then I go to sleep
      Counting my blessings

Give life a chance. Things will get better if you believe they will. Trust me; been there, done that!
The world's still a toy if you just stay a boy!

        Thanks guys & gals,

I just keep trucking on. I have been stuck in this rut for 3 years or better now.

I have my mortgage trough bank of america. I called them about the loan mod. or just to lower my interest rate and they basicly blew me off. They said it would take 18 months for a loan mod to go through because they are so backed up. And no refi until I was on time with payments for 12 months. Hello! How can I be on time for a year if I am struggling to pay what I have now. Thats why I want a lower interest rate, dumbasses.

Any links or help would be great.

                FYI
Bank of America actually has the most aggressive mortgage modification, forebearance and balance reduction programs than all the other lenders. Go online in your profile and request the mortgage mod. You must go through the mortgage mod process first, and get denied, and then they can offer their in house programs. I know its a PITA and seems like a waist of time but they must first try to qualify you for Hafa and the other government programs first. During that time it will not stop the legal process of foreclosure but depending on what state you are in their may be mandatory mediation. If so you will have a lot of time. In the South we are talking 12 months to three years.
You must go through the hoops basically. Fill out their forms, give them the documentation they require. Good luck

you'll make it through, like others said... think of it on a universal level, you're probably still better off then 90% of the world who don't even have shelter/ proper nutrition/etc. Everyones struggling now, we've been fooled that what were in is a recession but according to numerous sources, statistically, this country is in a full out depression. Real unemployment rate is in the high teens, low twenties, but numbers are skewed by the outlets presenting them. Overall, there's a few ways of being pro-active... like islander said re-mod's are an option, just be real careful what you sign off on, that industry is way shady. You know once your lady is certified and in the work force that you can act as a team.. with time, more opportunities will arise, but that could be awhile. Keep your head high and family close, you sound like a good dude and it sounds more like stress then depression. Your not alone man.
