I used to like all the original Nintendo characters from the 80's - they should ressurect them. Maybe they already have.

What I really want is a full size driving console seat & stearing wheel to use with my huge TV. May as well just book a track day.

I think me and MrBigDick are both too old.

My "old school" would need to be at least back to NES or something. Yeah, we had computers back then, but TV/console systems were more popular. Still into emulators even today. Play 2600 Adventure almost every day (simple things for the simple mind ).

PS- My best friend had a C64, but I can't remember much other than Castle Wolfenstein. I had an Apple IIc myself.

The truth is that the gaming industry was evolving at supersonic speed during the past 20 years. Pretty much anything can be called "old-school" for somebody. The majority of gamers would definitely call Castle Wolfenstein old school, but that was probably one of the "newest" games you've played.

People stopped to categorizing games by their publishing date, but rather by their basic gameplay concepts. Now days, almost all FPS that doesn't have regenerating health and force you to pick up medi-kit/potions/etc. are considered old school.

"Update: Beamdog reps tell us that the team at Overhaul is adding "new, original content" to the original game to make up the Enhanced Edition. "This is the Enhanced Edition, it's not a repackage. We have the original source code and are doing a significant update." He also confirms that no platforms have been announced just yet.

Update 2: A Beamdog rep also confirms that the company is self-publishing. Though he wouldn't go into detail regarding the new content, he says that "it's being lovingly crafted in the spirit of the original with the help of some of the original developers." Additionally, Cameron Tofer and Trent Oster have been working on the project ("planning and organizing") for "over a year now." We'll also hear more soon, as the team is planning "regular announcements every week with more details.""

I had an Atari and later Commodore 64. I really loved it! However, during my teen years gaming was past as I was far too social. So like MrBigDick, I don't know - or have barely heard - of the games some of you mention here.

I know there are game emulators, and have tried one many many years ago, before the nostalgia made these emulators widespread. Back then I was informed that I couldn't use a joystick to the emulator. So I wonder whether it works using joystick with emulators today? I would so love to play Commodore 64 games on the PC with a joystick.

Also I just remembered: I was given a C64 emulator during late 1990s, and the guy who gave me it, was a real game geek. And so was his brother. They had this large room only for gaming. Lots of different game modules etc. He also had contact with people all over the world, and had a list on the world records for different C64 games. I remember looking into the world record list, and saw this one game named "Oils Well". It was quite like "Pac Man". And the registered world record for that game was pretty small compared to what I had achieved. In childhood I did suspect that I had a particular hang for a few games. I could play for days and days without losing the game. And finally I would just turn off the machine. After telling the game geek about this, I went home and turned on the C64 (I bought a physical module from him), and I played that game for more than a day, and invited the game geek to see the result. It was at least ten times the registered world record. Such a fun game!

So back to my question above: Anuone knows whether a joystick can be used with the latest emulators?

The best PC games of my youth were Blood, Command and Conquer, Sim City, Duke Nukem, and Marathon (halo predecessor )

My friends had Nintendo, SNES, SEGA Saturn & Genesis, etc.

We played a lot of games on those systems. I also played a lot of Power Slave when it came out, which used the DOOM engine... oh, and DOOM was fun too. I remember playing a bit of Quake at a friend's house, and at a computer camp I played a bunch of StarCraft, WarCraft, and Descent. N64 and Playstation took over eventually, and I owned an N64. A friend got Playstation and FF7 when it first came out, and he had emulators for older FF games, which he gave me copies of for my computer. Great times.

I played a lot of RTS with friends too, like Red Alert, Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, etc. I remember Duke Nukem was pretty sweet too.

My big step into gaming was Diablo, when I played it at a friends house. This inspired me to pick up D2 when it came out, and I played that game endlessly. In high school, Counter Strike and Half Life became a huge thing, and games like Battlefield, Medal of Honor, and COD became huge. Then Ragnarok Online (RO) became my biggest game addiction ever, when I joined the North American open beta.

I played RO for years, trying other MMOs out and other games out at the same time. I remember I spent a fair bit of time on a Webzen game called Mu Online. I also spent a lot of time on Runescape and Gunbound. I got into GunZ for a while, Perfect World, some Mecha MMORPG, and really went everywhere, but I always came back to RO.

I tried WoW once and hated it.

In terms of single-player games, I did a lot of back tracking, trying out the Baldur's Gate series and games like it. My favourite old-school game is without a doubt 'Planescape: Torment'. That game was a bloody miracle.

Back in those days, there was usually no such thing as "Minimum system requirements"....few if any anyway. I have of course installed it. I found out online, that there are extensions, patches and such as well. I downloaded a graphics package that smooths out the graphics so they're not all pixelated like they were back then. Fun times.
in my school days I really like to play Mario and temple run which is recommended by my YOWA friends, which is your favorite one game in old school days?
