I have thought about the differences between Alpha, Beta, and Omega males for a while. The discussion is usually dismissed out of hand as being dated or pseudo-Darwinian and if not, it's almost always considered a division that is purely genetic accompanied with "We need Alphas, but not too much, and Betas are needed too." I don't wish to dismiss either claim, but rather elaborate and expand with potential future explanations of this phenomena. I'm largely not interested with the "you are or aren't" or "eugenicist" remarks on male hierarchy and will instead seek to describe traits and behavior using symbolism to expand the discussion.
1. The Alpha male is broadly described as the "leader" and first to mate with females (the entire pack or the highest female). The Alpha uses Betas as tools and may or may not reward the Betas with spoils. Betas can sometime overthrow the Alpha, and the Alpha is always looking out for other Alphas who may overthrow him.
The Alpha male has three concerns: The Pen, the Sword, and the Penis. The Pen represents creativity and design - architects, artists, writers, designers, inventors, facilitators, etc.. The Sword represents violence and honor - The Alpha male leads Beta males to death or challenges Alpha Males to the death. The Penis represents his penis and how he needs to fulfill his carnal desires to insure his legacy and satisfaction.
2. The Beta male is the "tool" in my estimation, of the alpha. The Beta is submissive to his betters and operates under their guise unless he wishes to overthrow or replace the Alpha; asserting himself as necessary for Alpha positioning in the hierarchy. There are three tiers of Betas - Captains, Privates, and Scrubs. The Captains are the Beta males richly rewarded and tutored by Alpha males. The Privates represent a class either abused or entitled. The Scrubs are necessary in only tertiary situations with little reward.
The Beta male has three lesser concerns: The Hammer, the Dagger, and the Vagina. The Hammer implements the artistry and innovation of the Pen. The Dagger is commanded by the Sword and is not capable of dueling with the Sword in individual contest almost always. The Vagina represents the ultimate aspirations of the Beta Male - he wishes to claim or conquer a vagina to spread his legacy. In this way he is always under the Alpha male but becomes at times a necessary component of societal progress. He defines himself as accomplishing another's task. He *can* be useful, even if subordinate.
3. The Omega male is the lowest form of male life. It is unfortunate that there even be Omega males and I'm not suggesting Omegas are necessarily required to be so low, there may be ways for them to achieve higher status and ability.
The Omega "male" has three bottomfeeder concerns: The Loaf of Bread, Fear, and Alpha penis. The Loaf of Bread is why the Omega is alive; consume and live at the expense of others. Fear is his weapon, he cowers in fear and uses fear as a tool for action. Alpha penis is what his desires are: to somehow share in the experience of sex by worshipping alpha cock (IE masturbating). Again, I pity the Omega male and hope that change is possible for all, but they are a third, awful option in the human experience.
What are your views on Alphas and Betas? Does my symbolism mesh with your understanding of this Dynamic?
