Condom size - nominal width?

Hey guys, does anyone know what the nominal width on condoms means?

Regular is 54mm
Large is 59mm

Surely this can't be cock width otherwise regular would be for someone with over a 6" girth!

I've always found the normal ones somewhat restrictive, but am pretty sure I wouldn't classify as 'large'.

That is the width of the condom when it is laid flat.

I have asked the makers this and get nonsense replies,
The reality is any over 5.5" girth should try out large fit.

If you take 54mm and multiply it by two, assume that's the circumference of the condom you get 108mm circumference, which is 4.25 inches. condoms probably can stretch about 20% over their natural (unused fresh out of the package) girth, which makes for 5 to 5.1 inches circumference, which is about par with this supposed 'average' girth. Of course condoms can stretch farther than 20% of their resting state, and a 20% stretch may not be required for a good fit too. Depending on the material, a lower % stretch could work.

latex condoms can actually stretch alot farther than that, but not advised to do so for use lol. They do all kinds of stretch and tensile strength tests on the batches as they come out of the factory.

Applying that same logic to the 59mm: we get 118mm circumference with an unstretched condom, and 141.6mm circumference with the 20% stretch which makes for 5.55 inches circumference.

20% could be an uncomfortable stretch, especially if the particular condom is one of the less elastic kinds or formulations of latex. I'm not a condom expert, though i did stay at a holiday inn express last night (lol).

seriously though.. i've been doing alot of reading on condom sizes and sizing lately, including reading about the different materials they use to make them, and the stretch properties of latex as formulated for condoms. The general consensus was that a 20% over resting state stretch is about as far as you'd want to try to take a condom during use, even though most latex condoms should be able to stretch alot farther than 20%, but i imagine getting less and less comfortable along with putting alot more pressure on your tool, as you stretch it farther out of it's resting state.

far as the OP mentioned condom sizes, and considering information given about what kind of measurement that is, I would say if you're over 5.5 circumference (girth), then try the next larger size if the sizes progress along at the same rate, possibly 2 sizes up but whatever you try: do a "dry run" first.. don't just slap it on and use it for intercourse. check the fit and see if it seems like it's too tight, or if it seems like it would slip off.

This is the one we use at work. If the fit is incorrect that condom is worthless, too loose doesn't protect and too small it will be very uncomfortable for the male and can rip easily.
