Why be a mod?

Okay we made a new mod today and a good one at that. I as always voted for the other guy but hell I always say that. Now don't get me wrong I liked being a mod and even now an administrator although I can't quite honestly figure out what I'm administering too. Why did I want to become one? Well actually I didn't; I came here one day and they said I was a mod and to go do mod stuff, whatever that was. Well since I didn't know what mod stuff was I just did whatever and before you know it they made me an administrator. Are you guys familiar with the Peter Princible; a person will be promoted until he reaches his level of incompetence. Well that was me being a mod so they took it up one more notch and made me really incompetent.

I was happy to become a mod and I'll tell you why. Somehow enough nice people thought either enough of me or whatever I was saying to choose me to do something that not everyone here can do.Remember that can't be all chiefs and no Indians. Maybe I was special to some folks here and it gave me good feeling, a feeling I enjoy to this day. There was no power thing or prestige thing that got me; it was just nice that others thought I was nice.

Now not everyone can be a mod because there has to be limits but many of you should know that you are special and well thought of here. But I would like to ask any who respond why would you want to become a mod? Your answers will be enlightening.

I wouldn't want to become a mod. You guys always choose excellent mods, so I figured if the time comes where I would be an excellent mod, you would let me know and perhaps I would oblige.

I can do whatever it is I want to do here without being a mod. I didn't come here to ban people or tell them to watch it or where to post. I came here to grow my dick and soon realized that was not the only part of me that needed growing. I can't go one day without coming to this place and I love it. The real question would be why would YOU want me to be a mod? because to me it makes no difference unless I can help with the survival of this place.

I would love to be a mod just to be able to keep an eye out for trouble in those hours when PEGym becomes a lawless place. Around the wee hours of the late night into the early morning when spammers from everywhere are abound and fights seem to get ugly. I naturally tend to be a night owl anyways and I stay up later than most.

I'm not a total asshole when I get a position of power either. I'm tough but fair, and I will sit you down and tell you exactly why you are in trouble and what is expected of you before I hand out any punishment. Usually people respond better to punishment if you come down to their level and explain a few things instead of acting like authority somehow makes you better.

I gotta hand it to the mods though. This place has a nice atmosphere once the troublemakers are dealt with the spammers are band. I haven't had any real issues with anyone here, because debates are just that. No one really results to personal attacks or name calling, and no mods are acting like trolls. Something I've seen on TP and MOS.

Can we answer if we're already a mod? I've got some thoughts.

First forum I have ever been a part of. That being said, I had no idea what a mod was.

So, this is what I came to believe. It would be a great opportunity to make a place that does good for so many people, maybe just a little bit better. Whether it be keeping it running smooth, having an ability to provide greater assistance to my peers, or be a part in building a better community for everyone to enjoy being a part of.

In the time I've been here, I have seen this place change people's perspective, help their confidence, answer questions they couldn't ask anywhere else, etc. This place has a profound effect on people, and if I can in any way help that along, or increase it, then I'm all for it.

Power or prestige? Nope, not interested. The appreciation is nice, but I'm still the same person I was before the title, just a little more able to help now. That's what I want. To do some good, because it feels good. To spread some positivity, and pay it forward. Because I need some back sometimes, too. I think we all do. To give back some of the knowledge and wisdom I've learned here.

I don't know if anyone else feels that way, it might be a little ambitious. But, it works for me, so I'll go with it.
