Advice for a newb guitar player

Alright, this is about me.

I want to learn how to play guitar and considering my budget, I have decided to go for a Squier Bullet Strat.
Now, I'm into rock and metal, so I wanted to know If I could do that with this guitar and an amp.

Also, do any of you know any good pawn shops here in SYDNEY? Because I want to go to one, in case I find a better guitar for a lower price.

So, help with the pawn shop and guitar configuration please.
