  • Adventure?!

    Hi all!

I've been watching a non anime movie lately, "The Hobbit", I watched it more than once actually, and as a home loving person myself, the movie raised a few interesting questions that I hope you may indulge me with.

First of all, are you adventurous? If yes, then to what extent?

What would you seek of it?

What counts as an adventure in your opinion?

Do you weigh the risks, or take any?

And most importantly, if you have everything you need and want at home, you have it right to your liking, and everything is just peachy, would you still risk it all and go out to the unknown? And why?

Reasonably adventurous, well at least I used to be, I'm far more calculated these days, kind of have to be for my job.

Adventures these days consist of me trying to keep up with my son and his limitless energy.

I seek of it when it hides!

I take risks if I shut my eyes or turn my back on him, he's a big fan of the avengers and likes to hulk smash without warning!

Still have to go out into the unknown to forage/hunt and gather!

The Hobbit is a great movie. I have the book but have only gotten through 50 pages so far. I want to read more of it before I watch the second Hobbit movie. Many people have watched it and told me great things about it and to my luck without spoiling the movie for me.

I like to be adventurous. I once had thoughts and the planning of taking my city bike from coast to coast or something on a long journey or maybe around the country but I realized that the time that it would take would be too much for me to spare and I didn't have the funds at all to do something like that. Maybe when I have more funds and more time while having the ability to ride for long distances I will then think again about doing a long bike trip.

I would seek the nature of things. I adore those breath-taking views of photos around the world and would love to see those views for myself.

An adventure to me is delving into something that is unknown to you and you are there for the ride, the thrill of something new.

It is wise to take in the risks to access what should be done. It is best to know what you are getting into rather than going in blind.

I'd risk it because after a while I could see myself like Bilbo Baggins. Being completely content with what I have but the aspirations to do what I wanted to do when I was young would be gone. I want to remember my childhood dreams and my dreams that I now have and to access what I would like to to try and experience and enjoy them.

My dad is probably going to wait for the extended version to come out and those typically come out around the release date of the next movie from the series, so I have enough time to read that book

Can't say that I am adventurous, but I have done a small share of things.

What would you seek of it?
The few times I ever felt like doing something like that it was always about proving that I could do it. Most of the time was based off of spontaneity and some sort of negative emotion.

What counts as an adventure in your opinion?
Anything over a decent period of time or a memorable experience could easily be considered an adventure, even when you would rather not remember them.

Do you weigh the risks, or take any?
Risks for me are about 90% weighing and -10% taking any. On the rare chance that I actually do take a risk it is either in some sort of game or has a chance of causing me bodily harm.

And most importantly, if you have everything you need and want at home, you have it right to your liking, and everything is just peachy, would you still risk it all and go out to the unknown? And why?
I don't think I could do so, hell I don't risk everything when I consider myself to have close to nothing, just in case I end up with even less than I have.

I am happy to report that I have gotten back into reading "The Hobbit" and in my opinion it is a fairly fun and easy read so far. I've gone through 1/3rd of the book (100 pages) and from what I see the difference between the movie and the book is a bit different from the two. There is no conflict between Thorin Oakenshield and the white orc. It is just an added piece of plot to make the story more lively. The movie is changed the flow of the events with small tweaks in the story to make the added plot blend in well to the story. I am glad the story isn't badly represented like the movie "Eragon" to the series it was based off of. That movie was so badly represented that they couldn't possibly make a sequel. It is a shame because of it, but I digress. To me, I recommend anyone to give the book a good read. If I keep reading the way I am I will have the book done before my spring break is over.

From what I read the elves are portrayed quite differently from the book to the movie in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I haven't read The Lord of the Rings yet but I will get into them when I am done with The Hobbit.

The elves in the movies seemed so royal, honourable and majestic but in the book they seemed very happy and sang songs and whatnot when Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and the dwarves went to Rivendell. I have only gotten through basically the first part of the movie that is covered in the book so from here on out what I read will be new to me.

                    I love elves!

While I never follow action parts in any movie, especially fights, but the elves in the movies do it like if they're orchestrating a music sequence, like a dance of some sort, very well done in the effects department too, so far them and Merida from Brave, made archery a great sport to follow in my eyes, I guess I'll be doing that soon (follow the news I mean ).

I also like the majestic bit about the elves.

Wish I read the book, now that I watched the movie, I won't be able to read it, but anyways, its still a good one.

Well there are three parts of the movie so you still can give it a read. I mean I will give "The Lord of the Rings" a try at reading despite the fact that I already watched the movies.

Okay, I want to give a little update with my experiences with The Hobbit. The book is incredibly easy to read. A ten year old could read it. I just watched the second installment of the series of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

I originally wanted to read the book before I saw the second part but my dad got the movie on blue ray and wanted to watch it. I got to page 188 out of 306 and found that where the movie crossed into new territory that I didn't know about was about halfway through the movie. First off, the CGI of Smaug is incredible. It is by far the best I have ever seen and I am glad I watched the movie.

I was being a bit critical in my own mind of the flow of things and how things were portrayed but it made me realize that the time of events couldn't be shown easily the way a book can. There were quite a bit of things that were changed but was overall very pleased with the movie. I'll have the book finished when I set the time for myself to sit down and enjoy the last 1/3rd of the book and after that I will go out and pick up the book "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".

After the last Hobbit movie is made I think that will be it for Tolkien movies. There is "The Similarion" but there has been quite a bit of conflict between the Tolkien estate and Peter Jackson, so the chances of that book becoming a movie is slim.

The Hobbit has been altered a bit from the book to make it look more like the Lord of the rings trilogy, if I recall correctly, Tauriel in the book is a male, and the events are more colorful and lighter, also note that Jackson had to introduce new stuff to turn a 300 pages book into a 9 hours trilogy, so the movie is very much unlike the book, from what I have read.

A bit of trivia, if you are interested, Gandalf (the actor) got depressed as he had to shoot most of his scenes alone in front of a green screen, and the cast had to visit him in his tent and gift him stuff from the lord of the rings franchise to cheer him up, previously a different shooting technique was used to make him appear taller than the hobbits, but Jackson decided to use a green screen for the Hobbit.

I agree, the CGI for Smaug is indeed incredible, and so are the elf scenes!

I understand that Bilbo decided to continue his adventure for the sake of helping the dwarves reclaim their home, but that wasn't his first intention, which was to go out on an unknown and dangerous adventure, which still doesn't calculate well in my brain, why would he leave the comforts of his home that he is so fond of and go out seeking the unknown which seems to disturb him and all other hobbits as well?

Do humans value taking risks so much to willingly risk all they've got just for sheer excitement, or there is a logic behind this?
