    Sad :(

    So my dog has been very itchy lately. I assumed it was an allergy as I could not find any fleas on her. Took her to the vet today to check on it and she was due for 2 shots. Well once I brought her in the car she went crazy! She was rubbing her face all over the place scratching and crying excessively. Her face started getting insanely red and it was swelling up. This really almost brought me to tears. Now I know some of you may think I am a pussy for this but this dog means a lot to me. She was there for me while I was going through a very tough time. Anyways I gave her some benedryl and since her swelling and redness has gone down she is still itchy but not as itchy. She seems a bit tired and sad right now. I am waiting to get her an allergy test as I don't have the money for it right now. I am sitting down at my desk right now really sad because I hate to see her go through this. ((

    Aw man, that sounds really upsetting. It does sound like an allergy and if it got worse getting her into the car it might be related. Is there anything in the car that might be the cause?

      That is so sad , I agree with AlpineNewt that it could be something in the car.

      I am no vet, but I think an antihistamine may help relieve her pain without harming her, the dosage depends on her wight, you can try Hydroxyzine (Atarax) it may sedate her a bit but only at first, also most OTC antihistamines would work.

        It's mange.

        The sudden itchiness, no sign of fleas or ticks, swelling and redness at the spots she scratches at, scars on the ears and nose..... It's mange, dude. You've got to get her dipped or keep bathing her with a special dog shampoo. You also need to be really careful about not catching these parasites yourself.... You would have to use this really bad smelling ointment all the time.

          I gave her Benedryl and it sedated her. Since then she has been asleep. She wakes up every 5 to 10 minutes to scratch though. I don't think its mange because the vet said that she has an allergy. Thank you guys for caring it means a lot.

            That's awful.
            If you are low in funds call ASPCA they may be able to help you.
            She may have got stung by a bee. Spider. Snake bite. I think they recommend put a teaspoon of white vinegar in the water bowl too.

            So sad very sorry :-(

                Sorry to hear about your poorly dog.

                Here in the UK they often give warnings that putting dogs in cars can put massive heat on the dog because the windows can act like huge magnfying glasses. So with the extra heat in the car that would be my guess why your dog felt worse in your car.
