    OK, here's the deal.

A friend of mine from my high school days is getting married this Halloween weekend. She called me this weekend and we had the chance to catch up a bit and she invited me to her engagement party which is on the 20th of this month and I told her I'd go.

Then, she tells me they're getting married on the east coast as most of her family is there (they're getting married in Connecticut). She told me she would love to have me there but understood if I couldn't afford to travel.

So, here's my question. Do I go? I have the means to book my travel arrangements now, that's not the problem. As confident and happy a person as I am, it's a bit weird to me to show up to someone's wedding alone. Am I being ridiculous? I'd love to go to the east coast as I've never been and it would be the perfect opportunity for me, even if for only 2 days, to see some of it and say that I've at least been there. I also do know her parents, her fiance and her sister. I guess it's the issue of showing up by myself that's stopping me from making my flight arrangements and so forth.

So, do I say "fuck it" and go and have a great time? I guess I feel a bit strange showing up alone, that's my hang up.
It's a tough job being good looking and hung :-)

Take your kids with you, you know the family thing going on.

I don't see your problem. A man is a man wherever he is, whoever he is with. Be yourself, go see them, have fun and just enjoy your time.

The worst that could happen is you get hooked on Bake Scrod, Lobster Salad, and New England Clam Chowder. If you are a rock hound there are some wonderful old Beryl mines in Ct.
At best you might hook up with a pretty brides maid and get a lot of mud for your duck.

I've been to most of my friends weddings by myself and it is fine. There will be a few single people there and you will have a great time.

I've thought about this but the airfare for the 3 of us would be about $1K. Then there's the hotel expense, the rental car, the food...........it's doable but it wouldn't be easy.

You answered your question in your first post! "Do I go and have a great time"? Duh! How many great times have you been having lately?

I would suggest going. With or without kids is your choice. But it's a friend inviting you to something fairly important in their life. Go buddy. Who cares if you're alone?

Go, and have fun. You don't need to have a woman with you to enjoy yourself. Take your kids, but only if you think they would have fun (and you too, with them along). Sometimes October is a bad time to be away from school, so maybe it is best to plan to do it alone. And who knows: maybe you won't be alone by then and can enjoy it with a lady friend. Or meet a new lady there. Anyway, you should go and enjoy it! Good things rarely come to the timid (and I know you are not timid!)

I had a very interesting day today. I had my plan all made out. I decided I was going to go and treat myself to a 40th birthday trip to the New England states for my birthday. Then, this chick at my job told me I should go with someone. So, I told her I had thought about taking my kids but figured it would be too expensive for the airfare and they'd be in school anyway 2 of the days I'd be gone so I bagged that option and decided to hoof it alone. In any event, we kept talking and she told me I really needed to go with someone and have a blast. So, I told her no one I knew wanted to go and she pops off with "I'll go with you". Just like that.

So, rather surprised, I said "ok, that's cool. Are you sure you want to go with?". She responded with "yes, OMG, it sounds like SOOOO much fun". I'm not exactly sure how old Cindy is but she's got a 17 year old daughter and I'll tell you, she isn't bad looking for a woman who is possibly in her late 40's. And I believe she's single. Not sure if she's interested in me or not but her offering to go with was sure a clue that she might be.

Now comes the snag. I texted my friend who's getting married and asked her if I could bring a guest. I didn't want to assume it was ok. She texts me back and tells me that they haven't finalized the guest list yet but they're trying to keep it to around 60 people or so as they're going all high end for the food and everything else ($200 a head is what she told me). That's a fucking expensive ass wedding. So, she said she wanted to make me happy and would try to see if she could accommodate my request to bring Cindy with me.

Either way, I decided to go as this would be such an exciting, fun experience. I'm hoping Cindy will still go despite the wedding deal but we'll have to see what she decides to do.

And you're right Batwoman, I'm not timid..........

I was going to use FedEx.........their rates were a little cheaper for shipping kids and other small people....lol

Yes, I am definitely going to go. I'm just waiting to find out if my friend that said she wanted to go is still interested if I can't take her to the wedding. Even if she decides not to go, I've decided I'm still going to go. This is a great opportunity for me to FINALLY go to the east coast and take a tour of the New England states in the fall.........something I've always wanted to do. The airfare for me to fly from SoCal to Boston is $300 bones round trip.........a GREAT price. I fly into Boston, rent a car and away I go. My goal is to see as much of Boston as I can, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and if I have time, get up into New Hampshire and Vermont.

I'm glad you've decided to go for it. Boston is a GREAT town to visit and New England in the fall just can't be beat. Whether you make the trip alone or with your new-found friend, you're sure to have a great time.

That all sounds great, you'll have a wonderful time no matter what! It would be very cool if your friend goes with you, but if not, I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway. Just a hint about traveling around New England in leaf season: sometimes all the nice places to stay get booked up way ahead of time. It pays to plan ahead and shop online for hotels/motels/B&Bs in advance. It's great to just drive around as the spirit takes you during the day, but you might enjoy it more if you know you have a nice place waiting for you at the end of the day. If you aren't sure of the intentions of your lady friend, book two rooms -- you can always cancel one later. That way you'll have maximum flexibility and nobody will feel awkward.
