The Most Important Question of Your Life
I found this article to be a nice way of looking at life purpose. More compelling than the image of having to put up with suffering in order to enjoy the fruits of our labor, this article reframes the matter as a question of what struggle we are willing to embrace and enjoy.
I find the idea of finding the optimal struggle to enjoy to be a useful countermeasure to societal conditioning that teaches us to fear, avoid, and mitigate pain whenever possible, to merely put up with hardship to enjoy the good life. This outlook emphasizes that our quality of life is defined by our pains, and that determining which pains to gladly suffer is the path to greater satisfaction.
I hope some of you find this fascinating as well. Please feel free to share your thoughts, criticisms, etc.
